Avril Lavigne: The Receipts

I found my excel sheet from August 2018 and her streaming has improved so much since then :heart2:

  1. Let Go - 308M
  2. Goodbye Lullaby - 216M
  3. The Best Damn Thing - 208M
  4. Avril Lavigne - 205M
  5. Under My Skin - 120M

At the time only Complicated was above 100M! Now she has NINE songs past that mark :wave2:

Using @Cefh's monthly estimates, she should finish 2021 more or less like this:

  1. Let Go - 1.1B
  2. The Best Damn Thing - 685M
  3. Goodbye Lullaby - 585M
  4. Avril Lavigne - 450M
  5. Under My Skin - 350M
  6. Head Above Water - 335M

(these numbers include b-sides, remixes, acoustic versions, radio edits, etc, but not live recordings)

I'm so happy for her!

:duca::duca::duca::duca::duca:

I was thinking about making a full data streams with both spotify and youtube numbers (including all versions of the songs that actually count as official streams) but it seems very exhausting

I kinda did that yesterday (just Spotify though and I forgot to include at least Knocking on Heaven's Door on Under My Skin lol). It's not too exhausting cause she only has 6 albums, but she has a few remixes and acoustic versions I wasn't keeping track of before so my Excel file is a bit of a mess.

YouTube is a nightmare to keep track of; Alice has like 10 different official uploads. Plus it's dying so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Losing Grip being a single is not problem. The problem is Let Go having only 4 singles.

How would you do the single line up?

The record label refused to do more than 4 singles to avoid comparisons to Jagged Little Pill era. They thought it would be a death sentence to Avrils career. They purposely moved onto UMS to prevent Avril being classed as a one era Canadian artist like Alanis. It worked and Avril is still being played on radio, massive on streaming platforms.

We all know Arista and Nettwerk (her management at the time) did a great job with Let Go singles. Losing Grip deserved single treatment but was too heavy for radio. It should have been Mobile.

1. Complicated

2. Sk8er Boi

3. I’m With You

4. Mobile

That’s so silly.

Avril could have done easily 5-6 singles.

Yes they should've had. Let Go has completely overshadowed Under My Skin anyways, it would'nt change anything. :michael:

If they were so afraid of Alanis comparisons (I imagine in the US) why not just release more non-US singles?
Losing Grip and Mobile were released in April and May, while Don't Tell Me didn't come out until March :michael: there was enough time for at least one more single

Seriously there’s an interview by Nettwerk and they were questioned on why they didn’t release 6-8 singles from the album as there were many choices and that’s the answer he gave.

If there would be 6 singles it would go like;

Complicated

Sk8er Boi

Im With You

Mobile

Things I’ll Never Say (Id end the era here tbh)

Losing Grip

Losing Grip flopped but it gave her her most deserving grammy nomination and one that she should have totally won.

The first 4 singles were picked correctly. If I had to add 2 or 3 more there are no other options aside from ABO, TINS and Tomorrow, the later could have been a cute final winter single.  Maybe ABO as the 4th single, TINS as the 5th single, LG single #6 and Tomorrow final seventh single.

Losing Grip could be the final single but the era would have been more successful if she had released Anything But Ordinary instead.

I think it did fine as a 4th single and it managed to get a grammy nomination, it's Avril's team who let the era die aftr LG, ABO could've picked up the era so it could end on a higher note.

Well, you know that her team orginally intended to release Anything But Ordinary as the 4th single but it's Avril's idea to release LG instead. ABO would have been at least enter Top 30 and then she could've released another single off the album. I like Losing Grip but it's too heavy for pop audience and she's never appealed to rock audience. I think only her hardcore fans at the time enjoyed the song

Yeah it's dying slowly but she had some amazing YT stats especially from TBDT and GL era (way more than her spotify numbers)

Spoiler

Imagine Xtina streams without the huge push from Say Something, MLJ and FTM :rip:

Didn't Alanis have a successful follow-up to JLP?

I think Thank U from that album was a big hit.

I think they released Losing Grip to let people get a taste of what UMS would sound like.

It was a massive forgotten flop and a waste of a single, but at least Billie Eyelash stans it.:michael:

Looking at the stats, it's probably going to be My World AL7's lead single!

Let Go could have been her Teenage Dream but I think they were clever by not releasing more singles. However, ABO, My World, Mobile and Tomorrow were single worthy.
