You could wake up tomorrow and find a random song sitting at #1 because some random youtuber pole danced to it and everybody on Instagram thought it was funny. And these quick ass 10+ week #1s are more and more common, it's just out of control and lazy.
Gaia Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 getting 6M+ streams on spotify a day isn't really "random"

It's irrelevant if it hits #1 for a week due to it going viral or some **** but being able to spend more than 4 weeks means that the song is doing it's work. (Streams, sales, airplay ect.) which not every single song in the Top 10 have that. Unless you mean quality wise, most #1's this year have been garbage. Edited October 16, 2017 by ToxicKat

It spent 3 weeks at #2, and Post has one the best streaming albums of the year and is coming off a top 10 hit. Rockstar has no meme going for it, so your point is moot. This also hit #1 in tons of other countries before the US

Eóghan Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Oh wow this is such a good gif, I applaud anyone who made it replay value >>>>
Goatseid Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Great: rockstar > Starboy > HUMBLE. Good: That's What I Like > I'm the One > Bodak Yellow Okay: Shape of You > Despacito > Black Beatles Bad: Look What You Made Me Do > Bad and Boujee
FutureHive Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Bad and Boujee hitting #1 made me the happiest for sure everybody from Drake to whoever took their versace flow and prospered meanwhile Migos never even reached top 40 in years. thats the rap game i guess

The shortcomings and innate ignorance of your limited musical tastes do not fall on the shoulders of people snatching #1s. If a #1 seems random, that's by far more a revelation of your own ignorance and bubble, not a failure of the Hot 100.

And Despacito wasn't exactly a hit because of its actual performance, it was a hit because people were into the novelty of having a Spanish song (sung by Justin Bieber, no less) becoming popular. Prior to the streaming era people actually worked hard for multi-week #1s regardless of their quality.

Didn't songs like Justify My Love only go #1 in the US because the video was banned and so Madonna sold a VHS single (aka the only way to see the video) that inflated its sales and shot it to #1? Every metric in the Hot 100 for its entire history has had corruption and trickery to go #1.

You can not like it, that's your own taste, but it's not "random" it's just a popular song at the moment.

taylor__fan Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 LWYMMD 8 weeks in the chart and #4 7 consecitive top 5 weeks including 3 at #1 Moving up one spot in the hot 100 But ATRL told me it is a frontloaded mess. Why is is as the same position that other pop girls peaked this year after 8 weeks of charting?
