The fact that she released a #1 album 15 years after near retirement is LONGEVITY. In all four of her biggest markets, no less. Even her last album, Up!, sold approximately half of its total sales during the first six weeks of its release. This occurred after a ~5 year hiatus. We shouldn't expect something different after a ~15 year break, the industry's push toward streaming, *and* bundles. An 89% drop is exactly in line with Katy's drop earlier this year (and she is a much bigger SPS artist). It is only 2% worse than Madonna's drop last year; as overall sales decline it only makes sense that these drops would gradually increase. In the last two months alone we've seen three #1 albums move 1-56, 1-59, and 1-97. Stop acting like this is surprising.
gerardsuxx Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Billboard Hot 100: #9 (-1) Sorry Not Sorry, @ddlovato *peak 8* [14 weeks]

There are many albums which debut at #1 but don't perform well overall.

THE BEST SELLING FEMALE ALBUM OF ALL TIME, which is hers, never went to number one, so no, the mean nothing. It went #2 for several weeks. 2 minutes ago, butterflysupreme said: She’s also the only woman to have 3 diamond albums, which implies a having a big fanbase She wasn't 50 back then. Even Madonna or Celine can't sell massively anymore.

Just a Gay on ATRL Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Shania did okay. She was never gonna sell millions again, the wait was crazy long, and her voice is not what it once was, but she did at least manage to show up two of the other girls you would've thought, because they're a lot more socially relevant than her, they'd be able to outsell her. But nope she nearly doubled them with SPS lol. Her dedicated fans were the only ones checking for new Shania and it appears most of them came out 1st week.

Which caters to your explanation. She doesnt have anything left to prove. This new album getting a #1 is just a bonus prize for her overall achievement.

(The #1 album this week did 5.5K, and she's #3). still #3 sis. not like she dropped off the face of the chart album sales in Canada is always low, she just has a massive first week

I don't think anyone was expecting blockbuster numbers this time, but you would think she could have had a more gradual decline second week.
