Billboard always underestimates too. When PI first came out they made it seem like it wasnt even gonna be top 20, then it debuted at #15. now they seem pretty sure that a top 10 is on lock... what if they're underestimating again?

Eh, you're just grasping at anything possible to try to prove that Gaga's over.

 

First week sales are always higher, so if Million Reasons was released 2 days before as the Madonna song, it'd be even higher than what it is going to chart. 

 

The conclusion that we can jump to is that it was a smart idea to do the Superbowl to continue her rise back to being a major pop girl. Like her or not, she's been in the public eye lately, and not just for stunts.

Not really. Her first two singles clung for dear life and MR crashed after countless promo. It's only going to get worse with the next release because sales will be six feet under in 6 years.

 

She needs to get out payola, and rethink her next era with marketing. I think by that time radio will be here for her since the music scene switches between pop and r&b every few years.

I think both yours and @avi's points are true.

 

Gaga is demonstrating that she is a powerful enough artist that she can survive without radio/streaming support, which is nothing to sniff at because a lot of artists aren't and only exist for hits. She, meanwhile, clearly has enough fans to tide things over with passable numbers and is popular enough as a celebrity/talent that people perceive her as more successful than she is.

 

However, it's also clear that her marketing is off. Something is up if Million Reasons can be clearly so well liked, but so hard to make a hit. Something needs to change because her being one of the last acts to push physical units won't matter if streaming/radio is the only way to get your music out there, and they don't support her for whatever reason. Weirdly, people seem to like HER more than ever, but it isn't translating.
