Very rude & baseless; there's no need to be negative.

Let's get back on topic: wasn't there word this song had the most expensive music video ever? How far will 420k go toward creating a positive ROI? Seems like it'll barely make a dent.

It's the first week sis. It'll end up 3xplatinum minimum in the US. Plus the music video is promo.

You trying anything to bring this girl down huh? I dont like this girl and hate the song but even I'm not blind to see this is a win for her.

So are you saying Hello would have sold like 2M in 2012 or something.

What you're doing is similar to how movies get adjusted for inflation to compare them to recent movies on a more fair basis, BUT it's completely inaccurate. You can compare profit a song made or whatever but you cannot assume more people would have downloaded the song in preveious years.

The biggest download week for any song is Hello, from 2015 in a largely declined download market. If people WANT to buy music they will. you can't just say "The market declined by 50% so this song would have sold 50% more" :rip:

And the point of adjusting isn't to claim "it for sure, would've done 1.02 million in 2012".  It's to point out how much more impressive it is to do 420K in 2017 than what Shake It Off did in 2014 or WANEGBT did in 2012 given the market change since.

The market has declined even for Taylor. I Knew You Were Trouble sold 416,000 first week as a promo single in 2012.

Look What You Made Me Do sold 420,000 first week as a lead single, with a radio deal, and a music video in 2017.

Are you going to somehow claim Taylor had as much hype with a Red promo single as a new lead single with a radio deal & music video? The market clearly changed. Which is why adjusting to take in the market decay even for a phenomenon like Taylor Swift is necessary.

420K in 2017s market is equal to:

552K in 2016

737K in 2015

840K in 2014

962K in 2013

1.020m in 2012

Undeniably more impressive than any of her other past leads.

Insane.

And that 625k isn't counting YouTube streams which RIAA and Billboard do so it's probably platinum already :rip:

She logs about 625k song SPS in its first week. For comparative purposes, Adele's "Hello" (Columbia) did 1.5m SPS in its first week.

This was the comparison they used? Which hater wrote this :rip:

with HDD's audio streaming total of 30.7M, the reported 420k downloads and the first six days of YouTube's US tracking week (41.5M), she's at 72,200,000 streams = 482k units + 420k pure = 902k in SPS. With the last day of YT she'll be at 920k at least :1stplace:

LOL at people say this is small in the grand scheme of thing. More like, in the grand scheme of things and compare this to other huge releases in the past  few years and adjusting this for the plummeting sales market, this is a HUGE number and a Massive achievement. Only if you put it under the haters microscope lens and compare it with Hello, then you will see it is smaller but that is not the point.

i don't think it's accurate to just calculate these numbers based on the market decline. (assuming that's what you did). there are other things to consider

it's like when people say 25 would've sold like 10 million first week in the states if it was released in 2000.

edit: ok **** me i should've read the whole thread

If the retail market in terms of availability back in the 2000 was the same as it is now...actually yea it wouldve.

VEVO/YouTube aren't counted.

Well it is for RIAA certifications and what else would a sps number for a single be?
