EXPLANATION

The song is about suicide, about a guy that is dealing with his homosexuality and that wants to kill himself, I used a unicorn because of how commonly attached with homosexuality they are (almost as a joke) and also I used the kind of mystical and 'rare' quality of unicorns in literature to represent how 'unique' this person is, the song is sang by the 'positive' side of his mind, like.. as someone who tried to kill himself because of not being accepting of himself and heard that 'positive' voice inside to avoid going 'in' I know these are the things that I heard, it's kind of a wake up call, as if this positive voice was like ''bitch, you're a UNICORN, you're UNIQUE, you're ONE OF A KIND, things get better!'' (lol), I intended the song to be cheesy but I also wanted to create a morbid but almost satirical atmosphere, like, the song is about unicorns that kill themselves, I guess that's pretty morbid.

So the story of Tu'er Shen is actually a simple one. He was a man who loved another man, and because it was deemed a crime, he got killed. The gods of the Underworld decided that because his crime was one of love, they would make him the god of homosexual men, so he could protect them and help them find love. I really loved this concept when I was doing research, so that's why I went with it despite it being a bit of an unknown one.

Two things I wanted to say is...I was lost reading your song prior to reading your explanation, and I'm still not completely getting it, but I can see how you could say the song is what it is. Also, there were some easy rhymes here that felt a bit...too easy? I don't know. I love the idea of having the magical serene imagery juxtaposed with the morbid reality of what you're portraying, though!

My song is inspired by Taurus, my zodiac sign, and Aphrodite/Venus, which controls Taurus according to Astrology. 

The two are actually quite contradicting in the sense that Aphrodite is the god of love and lust, yet Taurus is known for a degree of loyalty. When you think Taurus, you pretty much never think about cheating. 

So by combining art with pop, I have created the song Promise Ring. A song that creates a path between cheating, and staying loyal to the one you promised your love to. So the guy ends up in a club, making out with some random chick, but he is saving his virginity for the one who promised his love to. 

It's very contradicting in the sense that he's cheating, but he's still loyal to a certain degree. 

 

Tbh to me it sounds like an Artpop reject nnn I listened to it a lot this week and now, 4 years later...I totally get her concept with the album. I actually really like it.

I am a big Greek mythology geek so I was very happy when I found out we are doing cryptozoology/mythology/folklore for this round. I have a lot of mythological stories that I wanted to use but I eventually decided to use the gay love story of Zephyros, Hyacinthus and Apollo. Hyacinthus is a very handsome Spartan prince that he got the admiration of not one but two gods. Hyacinthus was closer to Apollo which made Zephyros jealous which pushed him to use his powers and kill Hyacinthus. So my song basically discusses Zephyros' grief and remorse. I hope you like it.
