Do twitter and instagram videos count for the Hot 100? Cause that Wild Thoughts Challenge... And I'm asking because I want Despacito to break the record, not the other way around No they don't count. He's asked it to be uploaded on YouTube so someone clearly told him the rules lol. A lot of content is consumed on facebok/twitter/instagram in video form now though, and I'm sure some people would make an argument that they should be included. For example when a high profile video is released now, multiple 2:20 clips of the vid nornally get 10s of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of retweets, and so we're talking potentially millions of views. Facebook and twitter users steal content and reupload it in a non monetised form for their own exposure, which is bad for artists and creators in general. Some YouTube content creators get really mad about it.

BB could void any YT streams other than the main video since he's soliciting for viral videos. BB could then decide nothing but the "official" videos (lyric and actual, and official remix) count. BB's already under pressure to figure out how to speed up what's going on in the upper part of the Hot 100. Eliminating viral videos would definitely speed up the chart. Yes, there are songs like Despacito and SOY that are fine without viral videos. But there are others which cling on to viral videos, like Watch Me and B&B, to extend their chart lives for literally months. Tbh I don't have a problem with DJK doing what he's doing, in a way it's just another form of promo. Nobody is being forced to make the vids so it's not chart manipulation. He's just utilising his fan base. It does come across as desperate though and because it's an inorganic attempt at an internet challenge it's unlikely to properly catch on anyway.

Or just count videos that are over 3 minutes long, therefore excluding the viral memes challenges ones.

At the same time I think facebok/twitter/instagram videos should be included, some of them, as you pointed out, are "stolen" aka piracy, which Billboard never counted towards the charts, so why now? And separating the authorized videos (as in the Wild Thoughts Challenge) would require too much work
QueenofCopyPaste Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Removing Wild Thoughts' discount effects, Bodak Yellow only needs 90+ points to be #2 Next to Wild Thoughts discount effect wears off, and once it loses airplay, its the strongest competition for the next #1 (excluding Taylor's lead)
lunnuyu Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I hate everything about Despacito but I still want it to break that Mariah record tbh
Roman Holiday Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Drake should have kept the record going until 2020. Smh

And separating the authorized videos (as in the Wild Thoughts Challenge) would require too much work Some content which is completely unofficial does contribute towards the Hot100 though, for example Rihanna's LOTB which never had a official video or even official audio uploaded has some random uploads from low level users with nearly 100mil views each. People are still consuming the song so it should probably be included. Other times people have used the song as background music for a different piece of original content ie. a cheorgeeaphed dance routine or short film which also gets included. It's kind of a complicated issue. It kind of depends how good or strict the artists team is as to whether they take down these videos. Taylor Nation for example is very efficient and harsh about it But other artists less so, and their songs are used everywhere. I think it's only possible to do the analysis when websites like YouTube and SoundCloud have audio recognition software which listens to and matches copyrighted content. I'm not sure about the capability of other social media to differentiate track specific audio, views etc. Which is why anauthorised use is a bigger problem there.

I see what you mean, Billboard made it clear they disagree with that though so I don't think it will change. I think the very week YouTube streams were introduced (min 30 seconds) to the chart was when Harlem Shake shot to #1 as a result so they definitely support viral content in their gauge of popularity.
Tinashebanks Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) What's the chance of this going #1 in two weeks ? It's coming for #1 on Urban & top 5 on Rhytmic next week. Plus its crossing over to pop too & will prob debut on their next week aswell. Not to mention the Spanish remix coming on Friday set to counter Despacito's YouTube reign & remix effect too . It'll prob get added to loads of Latin playlists & double her streams WW which'll have an effect on her US streams Come through TTH's & discount Edited August 16, 2017 by Tinashebanks

So, the Youtube views will still be in "Despacito"'s favor. Btw, "Bodak Amarillo" sounds so AWFUL. Delete it
Ultraviolence Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Quote Drake falls off Hot 100 after 430 weeks

You're right, I totally forgot about that. Many hits have benefited from those (Harlem Shake, Wrecking Ball, Black Beatles and so on)
Kim Kardashian Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I guess Drake doesn't care about his stats cause he could've easily done something to keep his record going. Like promote some of his songs on the front page with a discount and buy some YT payola.
