What are the chances of WT blocking Despacito?

Very little since Rihanna won't promote the song. Luis Fonsi is set to perform at the GMA, so only a #1 debut can save One Sweet Day's record.

Wiki says 1.4M towards the end of June.. It's been selling 100k+ weekly since then. So it's definitely over 2M and I see it being the last song reaching 3M+ in sales.

Not sure why everyone is freaking out over Mariah's record. Didn't Adele break Britney's record in 2015? You all lived.

Plus she still has the most #1 debuts and most #1's for now, but it looks like Justin and Rihanna will break those soon. :eli:

Britney's was nowhere near Mariahs record imo bc Britney wasn't the highest album debut of all time. She was for women but there were higher first week sales figures recorded.

Yeah, but it "mattered" when Taylor came close with Red & 1989. :flower:

I thought they meant Bieber.

Wait - when is Timberlake releasing? There hasn't been a date set for that. I think that poster was referring to Bieber's song that's being released on Thursday.

If they're talking about JT - then yes.

Bieber - no.

Q1 2018. acc to HDD hints

True. Her label waited to release ..... Baby One More Time until January so she could get a #1 debut. Had they released before Christmas, she could have sold more copies, but she was far less likely to have charted as high. I think Baby only had 150k, but went on to go 1.2 Diamond (I think).

And Despacito is still selling 80k/week..... SOY is around 2.3 M, but is down to 15-20k downloads/week. Despacito will pass SOY in sales and streaming for the year, but I don't think it can overcome Ed's massive airplay totals to pass him on the YE H 100 Chart. He has such a huge lead, and peaked WAY over Despacito at radio. 250 M AI v. 191 AI. And SOY is still #7 in airplay. Despacito would have to go close to 3.5 M to have a chance, and that is a stretch, but not impossible. It can and probably will hit 3 M in downloads with the VMAs, GMA's (?) performance, and EOY airplay freezes. The biggest songs of a year get a Christmas-New Year's boost, and Black Friday-Cyber Monday too. As for other huge songs, Closer is at around 2.85 M , selling 5000-6000/week, and JT's Feeling is at 3.12 M and selling over 10k/week.

Rihanna is featured on a male track and same with Taylor. Adele hasn't released anything in 2017.

I don't think Adele will wait another four more years before releasing her next album, but I'd still say mid-2018 at the earliest.
