honestly I think WT will start slowing down right around 17th week of Despacito beacuse summer will be over and the third song will dethrone Despacito - like P!nk song or someone's new single

Why do people keep bringing up P!nk's song as if it's going to debut at number one? :skull:

I know she's a consistent hitmaker, but her last number one was almost three and a half years ago, and it's not like it debuted there. If her single does that well, it'll probably take some time to get there.

Didn't you say WT would fall weeks ago  but it's actually been gaining/stable throughout Despacito''s run at #1?

Despacito is doing all the work for it. Decreasing at a faster rate in all metrics while WT stays put. If Taylor doesn't release before WT will go #1 by default. Not sure why that's so hard for some of y'all chart experts to see :doc:

I hope Cardi snatches #1 at some point in the next month, even if it's just for a week. :jonny:

The premature dramatics :ahh:

Wait until the 15th week is guaranteed first.

There are few big releases coming very soon

Despacito is not the biggest song of all time. And that song you never heard was a hit after the death of Princess Diana and loved by millions. It was selling like crazy.

I never said it will debut at #1, I said it can go #1 later, after it will build streams and airplay

yes, I thought it will be losing for like 5-6 points, and it's gaining. but it's gaining 5-6 points. pretty stable.

and when summer will end this song also will start losing points (that my wild thought)

I know right? P!nk isn't even a stronger streaming force to begin with. Her single will reach top 5 at most.

P!nk will flop/underperform

please stop talking you sound uneducated

Elton John rewrote one of his songs & released it after Princess Diana's death and it sold about 5 million copies in 2 weeks in the US and was also number one for 12-14 weeks

I didn't say that Despacito was the biggest song ever, but I feel as if there are much bigger hits than the one you mentioned such as Thriller, We Will Rock You, etc.

How does not knowing a song make you sound uneducated? Prince Diana's death happened before I was born, and I didn't experience the pop culture shock waves of that event.

Despacito will break record because lack of competition. There's many more songs that would break the record - Uptown funk, hello, shape of you, closer, see you again but were stopped beacuse of competition. there's no one who can stop Despacito. If next year someone big will release around march-april and get #1 for many long AND someone else won't be releasing like this summer, another song can spend 12 or more at 1.

Thats a weak argument to say lack of competition

At the end of the day...Despacito had weekly points that were on par or even higher than all those songs you just listed

I'm the One and Wild Thoughts are competition regardless of how you want to spin it

If thats the case...i can easily say there was nothing to block OSD and thats why it held the record

Uneducated was the wrong word I was looking for but I was born after Princess Diana's death as well and still know very well about the song & the events it surrounded

Candle In the Wind is lowkey forgotten in the grand scheme of things...you will NEVER hear it unless you go out your way to

Its not even one of Elton's top 10 streamed songs and i dont ever remember hearing it on the radio...Elton has hits more remembered...it hasnt carried over to the new generation

Its not an easily recognizable tune and thats just the reality

I mean i guess it depends for certain people. My family specifically was very enthralled by Diana & her life and watched her death live as it happened. So naturally they know the song well and it carries down to me. But if your elders didn't pay as much attention, then you'd have to learn about it yourself if you are born after 1997.

Whitney Houston had debuted at #1 the week before OSD and spent 11 weeks (at the beginning still bulleted) at #2. Everything But The Girl then spent a few weeks in the runner up slot.

The last few weeks it had at #1 was neither #1 on radio or sales. OSD got the advantage of a performance at the Grammys, which have it the edge the last two weeks at #1. OSD then fell 1-5, and had very little post peak longevity. Also, Macarena sold 4.3 M singles sold, compared with "just" 2.3 M for OSD.

Elton John never added it to any ODS websites that I know of, and if I remember correctly, does not have CITW 97 on any download websites. If I am wrong here, please let me know.

I know CITW 97 is on YouTube, the performance at the Church of Diana's service. Three weeks from now is the 20th anniversary of Diana's accident. John said that he would never perform that version again unless Princes William and Harry request John to do so.

Speaking of Candle in the Wind, original Candle Wind>>>>Candle in the Wind 1997.

I agree, CITW 1997 is one of the biggest song of all time. It was an event
