Court trial in August 7 to 17th where she's gonna be present. Katy hosting VMAs on 25th...kind of doubt it...

In before Tay releases on the 18th to celebrate her court win AND performs outside of the VMAs to avoid Katy. :gaycat1:

Without the onslaught of songs by Prince, Beyonce, and Drake, Hello would've probably lasted up to six weeks more. Its exit at just 26 weeks was premature, but Hello had such a strong start that it didn't have many more weeks left.

Now, had Hello not have hit at AC right as the format switched to Christmas music, I think that would've given it more longevity at the other formats. Also, had Adele's label released the biggest remixes for downloads and streaming, Hello would've had more sales, which also would likely had a few more weeks.

However, even with all of these other factors working perfectly right though, I still don't think Hello could've made it past 40 weeks. These other areas would've added to Adele's time in all of the other part of the charts too. Hello might have gotten 14+ #1 weeks too.

The biggest obstacle for HELLO was the release of 25 just 4 weeks after it debuted, and the album selling 8 million in just 2 months. If HELLO was released 3 months before the album I can't even imagine how big it would've been. :alexz:

Probable projection without discounts on both

Despacito (-50)         Wild Thoughts (+9)

13th week - 589            407

14th week - 539            416

15th week - 489            425

16th week - 439            434

Exciting times! :duca:

Lets say Khaled pulls the trigger, and discounts WT the week before the 15th tracking week...(489 to 425 is a 64 point difference) could WT make up the 64 point difference with a discount? (Assuming Despacito doesn't get discounted)

-------------------------------------------

What's the lowest a song can technically be discounted?

I bet Khaled would discount WT to a penny if he thought he could snatch himself another #1 song.

The Weeknd, Beauty Behind the Madness & Halsey, Badlands – Nos. 76 & 121 — A pair of albums celebrate 100 consecutive weeks on the chart, as both The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness and Halsey’s Badlands rack up their 100thchart weeks.

Beauty Behind the Madness and Badlands both debuted on the Sept. 19, 2015-dated chart at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Both albums have been on the list ever since, with Beauty Behind the Madness having never left the top 100. Badlands has only gone as low as No. 121, where it stands this week.

Overall, Beauty Behind the Madness has earned 3.7 million equivalent album units, of which 1.23 million are in traditional album sales. The set has also generated 2.05 billion on-demand audio streams for its songs.

As for Badlands, the set has tallied 1.3 million equivalent album units, of which 533,000 are in traditional album sales. The effort has also spurred 816 million on-demand audio streams for its songs.

Dua Lipa, Dua Lipa - No. 119 — As the pop singer/songwriter’s song “New Rules” continues to rise in popularity, its parent album moves up the chart. The self-titled album debuted at No. 86 on the June 24-dated chart, but then fell off the list the next week. It returned to the tally on the July 29 chart at No. 162, then moved up to No. 132 the following week, and then to No. 119 on the latest list.

In the week ending July 27, the album earned 6,000 units (up 8 percent), mostly driven by SEA units (4,000; up 8 percent).

“New Rules,” meanwhile, earned 3.58 million on-demand audio streams in the week ending July 27 (rising 23 percent).

I'm pretty sure they will discount both at one point. One wants to beat Mariah's record, and DJ Khalid wants another #1.

And iTunes' cheapest song is .69 cents. I don't think they allow discounts any lower.

I think Google Play and Amazon will go as low as $0.39 (US) for downloads. For ITunes, it's either $0.69, $0.99, or $1.29 (US). If ITunes offered a $0.39 option, some labels would surely be willing to discount their songs that low, even if it's just for one-two weeks.

Wasn't one song discounted to like $0.25 one time?

Hot 100 video version

Just like when Prince passed away last April and all of his songs re-entered the Hot 100, seeing the Linkin Park songs back on the chart really brings me to tears. :cries:

I know cassette, and in some cases even CD, singles were priced at $0.49. Usually the cassette singles were $0.49, and the CD singles were $0.99.

Yeah I was trying to think of other things outside of 25's release that could have helped "Hello" become a bigger smash. With a 90-day lead, UF and OSD, and maybe even The Twist, couldn't have compared with its power. If Hello was given a three-month release advance instead of just three weeks, could 25 have still beat No Strings Attached? I think 25 would have still opened up with 2.5 M (NSA had 2.4 M) instead of 3.4 M had Hello been given more time to chart on its own. Adele is Adele, and no one else can match her sales power. I also think her label should have released a CD single for the song, given the demographic of her fans. That would've sold 500,000 with a 3-month advance too.

There was actually a duet between Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin that was only $0.01 if you bought the parent album (some time around 2000). Some stores actually sold the single alone at $0.01, but BB didn't count those sales.

In US Radio we trust

One Sweet Day's record could be saved if US Radio drops Despacito fast. DJ Khaled could also discount the song in 2 weeks.

Macarena had fallen to #26 in airplay in its last week at #1. The sales outlasted radio airplay by a huge margin. Macarena was the #1 Song of 1996 and the #1 Sales Song of 1996, but it ended the year at #50 in airplay. I could see Despacito burning out at radio fairly fast, but its other numbers are still way ahead. Still, I do have a funny feeling that something unexpected will happen around week 14. As huge as UF was, even SYA slayed UF before it could reach 16 #1 weeks.

I believe that "Rude" is one of the weakest #1´s in history, even tho it stayed at the top for 6 weeks.

Definitely. I remember the song being #1 overall while not dominate sales, streaming or airplay chart. That was weird.

Lol @ Rude being one of the weakest #1s in history. It went #7 on the year-end chart.

I was really hoping Talking to Myself would chart. :cries:
