with how fast despacito is starting to lose points (it'll probably accelerate from -50 to around -65 or so once radio really starts dropping it) is it possible mariah can be saved without a major surprise release like taylor?

25/52 rule : when the songs have charted for more than 52 weeks, and under Top 25, it go re-current

Agreed. UF!, TOL and Shut Up + Dance would have lasted much longer. They got robbed.

Am I the only one who likes the 52 week rule? It keeps the charts fresh.

SZA - Ctrl

Week 1: 60,000

Week 2: 30,000

Week 3: 28,000

Week 4: 25,000

Week 5: 24,000

Week 6: 23,000

Week 7: 23,000

Total: 213,000

If she keeps up this momentum she's going to be the first non-Beyonce/Rihanna female in R&B to have a Gold album since Jhene Aiko's 2013 album. :clap3:

I definitely see it happening. 5 more weeks doing 20Kish, 7 more weeks doing 15Kish, and then 10 weeks doing 10Kish will put her past 500k.

Thanks for this post, I was wondering how much she's sold in pure sales.

She's holding up so well and she's definitely getting a boost come Grammy season!

any chance drake well keep his record going?

Nah. I think No fraud was supposed to be a song that kept him going through August. I'm sure he'll have a new song out in Sept/October but it'll be too late

Y'all are lying to yourselves if you think Justin and Luis' labels won't do everything they can to break Mariah's record. The Hot 100 is the most important music chart in the world.

True. At this point i hope it gets 20 weeks...not just 17 weeks go all the way

Predictions.

1. Despacito (=) *13th week*

2. Wild Thoughts (=)

3. Unforgettable (+3)

9. Shape of You (-2)

Other Songs.

21. Bodak Yellow (+7)

If only Wild thoughts was better

French getting his biggest hit of his career. Good on him

No other song seems to be a challenge for top 10 so hopefully Shape of you can last a couple more weeks

Cardi is about to get a top 10/5 hit.

That's how you come from the gutter and hustle from stripping to Love and hip hop to a crossover career.

Love her journey

The best thing could happen, honestly.

Not really. Good for Lana but bad for Tyler who could have easily been #1 had Lana's team kept the price the same the last day of tracking.

There was still trickery going on

Despacito will likely lead to more Latin songs getting mainstream airplay, remixes with popular English-speaking artists, and so forth. This happened in the very late 1990s and early 2000s (though with English songs by Latino artists). However, that trend will fade too. Remember, after FGL remixed Cruise with Nelly, a significant other Country artists remixed songs with Urban artists (including FGL a second time with J. Derulo), but nothing came close to Cruise's success.

1999 latin explosion all over again.

Things have a way of repeating itself

any song that has enough points to chart should be able to make the Hot 100 at any time in my opinion

Can't Stop the Feeling!, too :weeps:

12th consecutive week at #1 on Hot 100 Recurrents since entering at #1

it would probably be in the #40-50 region on the Hot 100 this week

Uptown Funk would have come closest, approaching or possibly tying Jason Mraz' "I'm Yours" second-place 76-week run 2008-9. UF would've gotten 70-76 weeks. I think there may have been a time during weeks 71-75 UF may have dipped below 50, but I'm not sure. Regardless, after what would have been week 76, Prince passed away. The Top Four recurrent songs that week were by Prince, pushing UF down 1-5 on RSC (it had led 20-21 weeks). Those four songs reached the Top 50 the falling week, with more Prince Songs jumping over UF on the RSC. Also, by that week, Beyonce's songs debuted, which was followed by Drake's release week onslaught.

What about Hello?

Charts shouldn't be fresh. Charts should show what's popular dat week. It any song have enough points to chart in top 50 - should chart. It means that song is still popular.

The only reason I'm against 25/52 is that I'd love to see how long UF!, Closer, CSTF etc could have lasted without it

Cause now Jason and ID will have an unchallengeable record bc the rules have changed
