So basically they're streaming the album for free....like Spotify?

I don't see the issue.

You don't even need an account to stream the album, which is why they are saying the streams shouldn't count. They can literally use spam bots to go on the page and play all the songs on loop.

There is also no revenue generated by those streams. Streams on Spotify even for free generate revenue. The sole purpose of the streams are to inflate a charting position in a close race.

They're saying streams like this:

https://listen.tidal.com/track/76121586

Where you don't even need an account, you just go on the page and click play shouldn't count. It's basically like YouTube streams and can easily be faked with bots going to the page.

Nothing like that has ever been done on Apple Music & Spotify, where an account wasn't needed and you could stream an entire album free without an account by visiting a page. They don't even get any revenue from it. It's done for the sole purpose to inflate streams and cheat the chart, hence the only 2 times it's been done is during DJ Khaled & Meek Mill's album release weeks where they were projected in a close race for #1.

These don't always work tho. I remember trying them.

HDD saw an opportunity to write their Tidal-Hate article of the day and went for it.

This is why Tidal doesn't give them numbers and that's why they will continue to seethe

A company acting deceitfully with Jay Z in charge?

Tidal's owners have been cheating since they opened the streaming service a few years ago and it has been proven many times.

Is it still surprising ?

Yes, they do work. The album is in a deal to be streamed for free on TIDAL even without an account during it's debut week, to purposely rig the chart for it to go #1 in a close race.

If you think HDD is being "biased and hating TIDAL" by pointing that out, then you're delusional. :rip:

So Tidal is promoting the album at a loss to them?

I mean, that's how promo works sis. The company still has to pay out the artist/label per stream generated. So this notion of the streams not "generating any revenue" is a bit dishonest.

Tidal is just having to make up the loss for the free streams somewhere else. Spotify does it with ads, Tidal is probably doing it with Blue's trust fund. Same principle, different approach.

Colour me surprised.

No. Spotify has ads when you use it for free.

So they are streaming it like Apple Music 3 months trial.

Artists get paid for streams during the 3 month trial. That was Taylor's big beef with Apple Music and the entire reason she decided to go with them before anyone else.

It's literally working for me right now:

People are still streaming it, so when it comes to popularity it's still fair.

If Meek goes #1 it's because he had the most popular album.

It's not ad-supported though like YT and Spotify streams.

It goes against Billboard rules.

ok, but is what their saying lies? they might hate tidal, and tidal might not be doing any of this with the sole intention to cheat anything, but is what HDD reporting lies. did tidal not report two differrent numbers to sale verification bodies?

is the free stream thing lies?

Lana could've done the same :michael:

"So Tidal is promoting the album at a loss to them?

And there is rules purposely against that. A new album cannot be under $3.49 first week so they albums aren't sold at a loss price just to do huge numbrs. In theory, if an album is also being streamed for free without an account and nobody is being paid just to inflate the numbers, then there should also be a rule against it.

Well, BB changed a last minute rule with Brit backin 2007, with Blackout debut at #2.

Well as iHype pointed out, they cut a deal with Tidal for this promo. So it's all good.

Also you know HDD is shady because they didn't even bother getting Meek's album title right :rip:

This makes sense. As long as Meek is getting paid for the streams (even though he paid for the promo), the streams should still count... though it sounds very dishonest on paper

It's not a deal, when literally no revenue is being genertated on either sides. That's like someone shipping 1 million CDs to Target and having them give away for free. If that wouldn't count for the charts, then why would this theoretically?

Meek or TIDAL isn't being paid for any of the streams. It's completely no money on both sides. The equivalent to someone shipping 1 million CDs to Target for free and Target giving away the CDs for free and having them count toward the chart.

What HDD is saying is that deals like the one Meek has this week shouldn't count.

And I don't blame Tidal for not reporting all their numbers to HDD via Buzz Angle. They've been nasty to them since day1. They reported their final numbers to the publication that matters, Billboard. It was basically a slap in the face of HDD and they've been angry ever since.
