The biggest Hip Hop album of 2017 is easily DAMN.

Lol at you comparing Kendrick in his prime to Jay-Z touching AARP approval . I see no logic

Is towards the Hive defending him in general. And Anti will sell more and do more SPS overall despite similar circumstances and was dragged to hell so yeah these numbers really aren't that amazing especially when he was used as the antithesis for Anti excuses "well Jay Z gave his album away and did WAY better, etc etc".

The only thing outlandish in this thread is people trying to make these numbers look like an underperformance.

It's reasonable for people to clock you when your arguments have no legs to stand on.

JayZ is an easy target and the Hive welcome the drags, but his SPS isn't something you can come for.

I'm comparing a 2017 rap album to a 2017 rap album.

Ummm is Lana safe? She's releasing in 2 weeks

Sweetheart, if I was not die-hard fan of hers I wouldn't even know or bother at this point when her album is coming out.

She will do horrible which she wouldn't have if she released the album in, idk March or April.

Did Dr Dre outsold Jay Z? Dre did 320K with Compton right?

Yes Rihanna is a pop star, and newsflash - in 2017 Rap stars are the ones pulling the biggest numbers. You can't use him being a rapper as an excuse like Views wasn't the top album last year

Pretty sure that was lemonade.

secondly, how you going to compare views to a rap album like 4:44.  Does jay z have a one dance? :ahh:

didnt Drake boycott the grammys because he didn't think he deserved to be in the rap categories? :ahh:

Ok but what numbers will Kendrick be doing on his 10th album?

Without streaming for a week prior to going on sale, and being released in tandem with the Straight Outta Compton movie.

A third Dre album was also hugely anticipated for a very long time.

Is not a similar circumstance at all. Rihanna is a pop star, Rihanna had features, Rihanna promoted. Stop

Rihanna didn't do any US promo for ANTI until May (4 months after release), didn't have iTunes banners, didn't have physical copies first week & she released in January which is the worst time of the year for sales. Plus the hype for her album had died a little due to the long, messy rollout. And rappers' first week sales are usually bigger than pop girls first week sales.

Y'all dragged Rihanna last year, using the fact that Jay Z did way better with his 2013 album MCHG, and now y'all are struggling to find excuses to explain why he's barely outdoing Anti's #s in a similar sales climate, in better circumstances. :lmao:

Slightly higher streams, slightly lower pure sales. Which is natural given that was an earlier time in the transition from sales to streaming.

Also, Pinkprint was released right before Christmas.

Views is 4x Platinum, Lemonade is 2x Platinum. I'm pretty sure being certified for 2 million more means you had the bigger album.

Drake's two mixtapes the year before Views with no Pop songs, no prior singles, and only half a week of sales also did more than this. Your excuse?

In 2013 Jay-Z did 500K first week and was one of the biggest rappers. Don't go from making him to be the one of the biggest rappers today, to "he's a veteran, he's in a different league! It's different for him, don't compare him to rappers today!" once his numbers start declining.

Jay-Z is thirsty for success so he deserves the drags anyways. Buying Platinum certifications and always trying to attach his name to others (Beyonce, JT, Kanye, etc) who are doing huge numbers. :rip: Jay-Z clearly is success hungry, so he will get dragged if he underperforms.

Stream numbers are fake. They will count first week and second week numbers combined.

Didn't MCHG have Holy Grail+multiple other hits to support its sales week? Anti also had a 9 week #1 so it's still impressive that it;s outperforming it so no need to shade Jay y'all

It's not much so about the sales week. ANTI was dragged for not going platinum in pure sales against Jay's 2013 album. So the main point of interest is whether 4:44 will be able to go platinum in pure sales like MCHG. Time will tell on this obviously.
