25 weeks. One shy of half a year. Staggering.

What the ****. SOY is so basic and boring after few listens. It's unfair. GP's taste is trash. :fish2:

Why is no one complaining about Calvin Harris being credited as a lead on his album. He is a DJ just like Khaled, they are doing the same thing with the same artists :cm:

exactly or DJ Snake.

At least it's much better than the previous threats and it's actually a global smash

And either way, both of their last albums debuted #1. It's not really a big deal who goes #1 when both of them already have #1's.

I mean everyone dragged Ariana when DW debuted at #2.

Closer was a great song and absolutely should have had the record. The way those stupid mannequin challenge videos from youtube were allowed to count towards the billboard charts was an absolute joke.

wild thoughts will sadly NOT reach #1... its just a cute streaming smash imo :michael:

Closer was great but The Chainsmokers and Halsey have trash personalities. Not really deserving

The kid is adorable, but his dad is an annoying, talentless chub whose only contribution to the album is screaming his own name 395 times.

So The Beatles albums should be credited to Sir George Martin, or the Bee Gees to Robert Stigwood?

Uh..yeah? Producers do so much. None of the music we know and love would be the same without the hard work of producers.  They work tirelessly so we can have bops. Y'all better respect.....

Uptown Funk dominated every matrix on the Hot 100, over smashes in their own right, by huge margins. Closer was bigger at Top 40, but not overall. If Closer could've charted at Alt, AAA, or UAC, I would say the two songs are compatible in size.

I'm not sure why Closer could get any airplay at Rock or Urban outlets, as I think it would've worked at Alternative. But outside of the Pop Quadrant and Dance Airplay, no other English language genre played it. Remember, UF had UAC, AAA, Jazz on top of what formats played Closer. And UF went Top 3 on all of the Pop Quadrant charts, with #1s at Top 40, HAC, and Rhythmic. Closer stopped at #2 at Rhythmic and at around #8 on AC.

I am really hoping Closer can go superrecurrent with its entire run in the T 40, but Jay Z makes me nervous. If he follows his wife's release patterns, streaming only at Tidal and forcing fans to buy the album for a few weeks, and not individual singles, then I think Closer can pull it off.

Their personalities have nothing to do with it.

I really think something some song will come along after Despacito reached 13 or 14 weeks at #1. Remember, SYA came out of nowhere to knock UF out of #1, so I can see some artist/label waiting until Despacito is more vulnerable in five to six weeks to end its #1 run. Not to mention, Despacito will likely burn out at some point, just like Macarena had fallen to #27 in Airplay by its 14th week at #1.

Also, I'm wondering if Bieber is running the risk of burning himself out too with all of these features. After having the first three songs from Purpose hit #1 and chart simultaneously in the Top Five, Company went nowhere. If he's about to release an album, and he's been featured on so many songs through the summer, he risks having his own songs and/or album could underperform upon its release.
