How does this keep happening? This is very unfortunate however I don't think there's any deaths reported so far, only injuries. Hopefully everyone recovers asap.

 

When I entered this thread, I thought it was gonna be like the bridge crash in Baltimore last year and the entire Brooklyn Bridge fell apart

People were recording the ship before it crashed. Then it happened and they kept going. I don't see the issue with that. What were they supposed to do? Put their phones down and run into the water? Be serious.

If it makes you feel any better, I would have taken out my phone specifically to record the boat crashing, bc you know, it's a significant thing to happen.  I don't even know why someone would need to explain this to you.

 

@OP No one has pointed out that the masts on the ship are WAY taller than they should have been.  Whoever didn't bother to check the height limit of the bridges they'd be passing under is a complete idiot and there are likely many responsible for this.  This is the easiest thing to avoid.

This would work in a context where the affected are accessible but what else can they do- if anything, keep going and gather all evidence you can get. You can also see in the OP one of them stopped recording the moment it crashed so I don't know why this outrage here and now

OT: Just read the NYT article - the ship was never expected to sail the east river up north. It seems like they lost power and the current dragged them (even though I would assume the current would drag you towards the sea?)
