I always thought Raven stayed booked and busy between having a full time voice role on Kim Possible, making albums, That's So Raven, and Cheetah Girls. The thing was that Disney didn't market her nearly as hard as Lizzie McGuire or Hannah Montana for exactly those reasons.

True, but also, the fact that Miley's show had such a big focus in music helped it to become bigger, cause it's like the TV show pushes the music and the music pushes the TV show. Wasn't the same for Raven.

As someone who grew up without ever watching the Disney channel I can say that I heard about Hannah Montana all the time to the point where it became a cultural phenomenon. It was everywhere. I heard of Cheetah Girls once, but thought it was a cartoon. That's so Raven I was aware of didn't see much about it. i grew up with both shows. Raven and Lizzie. i was like  11-12. Southamerican Child turning to teen  
privileged enough to have cable* like 30 tv channels*
i remember so many kids from my gen lovin these shows but disney channel was just like starting............
there was no big big audience for the channel. It was just gettin more popular worlwide
Even stevens was highly watched too (didnt like this one back then cause i was not a fan of shia labeouf) and Phil of the Future with Aly Michalka
Lizzie was the softie show and raven the funny one
the raven one was definitely like the foundation for all the future disney channel shows. That comedy-laughs format. the lizzie one was too serious sometimes lol.
in those times hilary duff music career went big and it expanded the power of disney channel too and her own tv show too
they used to show her music videos all the time on disney channel like wake up-why not-beat of my heart-so yesterday
i dont get why raven is bitter cause her show was definitely highly highly loved  both were seen as the major disney channel brands


then we had more cool shows like zack and cody (huge too) and life with derek and random disney original  movies with actresses like brenda song or random actors......to live in the disney era in that time was everything awwww




then Disney Channel was gettin more and more popular worldwide and they had a huge repeak-turned into a huge cultural phenomenon
High School Musical, Cheetah Girls 2 and Hannah Montana shifted things for disney like their first shows
Wendy Wu,Cow Belles and Jump In were also pretty popular too........
The Lizzie Mguire italian movie also had big re-runs at the time and was pretty popular.....

i remember when Hannah Montana premiered. i was like.......
ok this show is a bit weird but i wanna watch more and the songs were enchanting  
then each episode was gettin better and better and it turned into such a frenzy.  u were just hooked to it..............
Hannah was the perfect blend of Lizzie Mguire family drama and Thats So Raven funny things
So the raven comparisons make no sense cause Hannah and Raven were from different eras.
 

 

 

This was a canadian show but aired on disney channel in those golden times too
the lead actor. derek. he's GAY  for the ones unaware of it.

Hannah was more popular than Raven though. And the music is an integral part of the show which made it a lot more marketable. A lot of people didn't even watch Hannah Montana but knew about her because of the hit songs and albums

Both were global phenomenon. The difference is that Hannah Montana was all about the music, which helped them market Miley as a singer from the get-go. Raven had nothing to do with music, which in addition to what she said, made things harder for Raven's music career.

Raven-Symoné could have been much bigger with the right investment and team around her, sure. She was more than certainly an A-list celebrity. I'm not sure what her goals and ambitions were during that time, but she really should have tried to further hone her craft musically. I won't take anything away from Miley, because she deserves the success she's acquired through her own talent, hard work and sacrifices.
