Speaking of acting, I remember she had a TV show in 2011, but it was cancelled after 12 episodes. I thought it was funny.

Raven was aging out of the Disney system, idk why she felt the need to say this.  Yes, she was "dealing with Orlando Brown"… as an adult woman on a network for actual children.  Her show was *years* past its peak and was becoming culturally irrelevant.  It's inevitable for shows on Disney, her case isn't unique.

well, that's not entirely accurate. miley had hannah montana, which was more of a child superstar. miley was selling records as hannah & miley, so of course, they would choose the more successful one and promote her further. + raven was 7 years older than miley she should've compared herself to hilary duff not miley

As someone who grew up without ever watching the Disney channel I can say that I heard about Hannah Montana all the time to the point where it became a cultural phenomenon. It was everywhere. I heard of Cheetah Girls once, but thought it was a cartoon. That's so Raven I was aware of didn't see much about it. I suspect Hannah was a cash cow for Disney right from the start and they went where the money was.

What Raven managed to do as a young black girl on Disney hasn't even been replicated since and she did that sh*t in 2003… at 15!

 

I'll defend Miley till the cows come home but nothing Raven said was offensive or wrong. Part of the reason she got pushed more was that she was much more marketable. She was also insanely hard working and talented, both are true and Raven didn't say they aren't.

I honesty feel sorry for CoCo Jones she should have been push everywhere with her own TV show etc…

 

 Brandy was the blueprint on how to market young black teens so this excuse of not knowing how to market them is bull. You market them the same way you do other girls there is no difference.

having had multiple interactions with both of them in real life...I can see why disney went with miley (even tho raven was basically already out the door at this point)...

 

miley is a very approachable, down to earth (and obviously talented) person...whereas raven was always very rude/stand-off-ish & entitled  IMO...(I high key have never heard any of her music so this isn't a criticism on that)...

Tbh Miley is way more versatile in talent, even at 13 years old. Raven had a good career on Disney.

It helps Miley performing as Hannah Montana also served as promotion for both the show and the music that it produced. The IP was a cash cow and yes - Miley being a skinny white girl during a conservative era probably helped. I liked Raven but they weren't able to replicate that with her.

when miley cyrus' show started, social media was new. the entire internet as we know it was new at the time. fans didn't have their favorite celebrities on their fingertips when raven's show started.

 

and i'm not denying that being black played a significant role in raven's career. however, in this context, it's important to consider that miley cyrus had more opportunities because of social media, tbh this is so redundant of raven because miley wasn't in the same school year as raven. by the time Miley was touring the world, raven's show was in their senior year. 

 

i'm using "school year" because it's an inside joke for disney fans. every show is set in their high school years. and they graduate by the 4th season (from disney)
