Radical Pessimism Posted May 10 Posted May 10 John Legend is looking back at his friendship with Kanye West while addressing the rapper's "decline." If you didn't know, John, 46, and Kanye, 47, became very good friends starting in 2004 when John signed a record deal with Kanye's GOOD Music record label. However, the two had a major falling out several years due in part to Kanye supporting Donald Trump. In recent years, Kanye has found himself in many controversies, including calling himself a Nazi. While speaking with The Times, John said that he believes Kanye first started spiraling out of control following the death of his mother Donda. "I don't think we're qualified to psychoanalyse him, but after his mother passed in 2007 there was definitely a difference," John said. "His descent started then and seems to have accelerated recently." John went on to say that back in the day, Kanye "had so much optimism, so much creativity," adding, "It does feel sad, sometimes shocking, to see where he is now." While addressing Kanye's anti-Semitism views, John said, "I didn't see a hint of what we're seeing now, his obsessions with antisemitism, anti-blackness, and it is sad to see his devolution." x 3
Popular Post Devin Posted May 10 Popular Post Posted May 10 as a former fan, it is sad to witness. which is why we should make mental health a bigger priority in america. 8 11
jadeabove Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It's a fine line to walk between empathy and accountability, especially in a context of failing mental health. It is extremely sad to see someone as creative as him, self-destruct and having such a destructive outlook. I just wish he could see it.
king_queen Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It's so crazy to think about how Kanye used to be one of the most outspoken pro-black rappers in the game. Donda would be ashamed.
Abracadabra Posted May 10 Posted May 10 he's obviously very mentally ill but that doesn't excuse or even explain his behaviour considering that bipolar doesn't turn you into a nazi while his mother's death seemed to signify the start of his decline, he was already pretty erratic before that point, albeit nothing compared to what we see today. I actually think that years of being fawned over as a "genius" and not being held accountable for anything has been the most destructive thing for him, because it seems that his ego and severe narcissism has made him completely lose touch with reality 3

His only "erratic" outburst before that was correctly calling out one of the worst presidents ever for not giving enough care to a tragedy which disproportionately effected black people. OT: Ye's decline is tragic but we shouldn't coddle him. Being a Nazi is a choice, rejecting medical care is a choice, making yourself a pariah to validate your victim complex is a choice, he's made terrible choices in life and has reached a point where he's done more harm than good. Well no, that's not true. I'm not referring to the Bush moment. Even prior to his mother's death he had already crashed other artist's acceptance speeches at award shows (prior to the Taylor incident) to proclaim that he should have won, and has been accused by Amber Rose of being abusive to her during their relationship. Like I said, nothing close to what we see today but he had already displayed questionable behaviour and poor impulse control before his mother's passing. The signs were all there. 3

Poor behavior, sure. But the bizarre pr self-harm stunts didn't start until after Donda passed, and those episodes are what most people think of when somebody says erratic behavior in regards to Kanye. I think we just misunderstood each other. Edited May 10 by Ubermensch
loveisdead9582 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It sucks to see how far his mental health has fallen. The man is not well and if he is refusing medical care then we need to stop coddling him.
playboi Posted May 10 Posted May 10 This massive hypocrite should worry about his equally evil wife instead
