Cain Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I own all her albums but artistically she very much peaked with LP1 and the EP, idk why this era she's suddenly all up her own ass when Eusexua is a great record but hardly pushing musical boundaries…
Genie in a Bottle Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) Why are you all so pressed She isn't wrong lol Anyone saying this would just get labeled "pretentious" by the chronically online let's be real It's a good thing someone like Gaga didn't say this, because if she did, this website would have exploded Chernobyl style lol Edited May 10 by Genie in a Bottle 2
Stankonia Posted May 10 Posted May 10 She's right and she should say it. And how is this a pretentious thing to say? She didn't call herself a great thinker. Y'all kinda proving her point lol 1

mandynasty Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Anyone can point to extremely famous, influential, long-dead philosophers and theorists like Hegel, Marx or Fanon, because they're so famous you'll learn who they are without needing to bother reading them, and they emerged at breakthrough moments in the history of modern society that can't be repeated. Currently living writers don't have the benefit of a long posthumous legacy, their work is diffused among the contributions of millions of others thanks to the proliferation of literacy and online access, and they're also living in a society that hasn't even overcome the challenges posed by the last set of "great thinkers", so their work inherently exists in the shadow of others and can never occupy the same position of world-historical importance. This is not a symptom of mankind having collectively lost its capacity for deep thought. Spend like an hour reading about Palestine, for example, and you will find people whose insight is breathtaking. But you have to actually care about and take an interest in the subject first. "Where have all the great thinkers gone" kind of sounds like the take of someone who doesn't read or engage with the current world, but just wants to be told who's famous and important enough to cite for clout. I certainly don't get the impression from her work or activity that she ventures much outside her bubble of high art and celebrity self-care. Love that for her but a dismissive attitude to the intellectual output of the rest of the planet is not warranted. 3
