Eternium Posted April 25 Posted April 25 First the Switch 1 became the biggest console ever and now this. See what happens when you focus on gameplay first? 8

Onyxmage Posted April 25 Posted April 25 (edited) I thought people in the US couldn't afford eggs? Was I lied to? Also people applauding a greedy anti-consumer corporation like Nintendo will never not be funny. Edited April 25 by Onyxmage 5 1 2
Deadlocked Posted April 25 Posted April 25 So curious about this because: - Cost of living is very high nowadays - Scalpers JUMPED on the PlayStation 5. I was only able to get mine through the Sony lottery in the 2nd year of the PS5's cycle. You literally could not buy directly from Sony for 2 years straight. - You can't pre-order Switch 2 in the US (or was there an update about this?) I guess they saw what happened with the PS5 and made sure to have more stock available.
MattieB Posted April 25 Posted April 25 All the yapping bitching and moaning about the price and still look at them right where capitalism wants them, on their knees 5

With inflation, the price of a Switch 2 game at launch is cheaper than a Switch game. Egg prices have risen to $6.23 a dozen in the U.S. which has caused huge spikes in food costs here. And Nintendo is probably the least greedy out of all of the gaming companies. You need to take that energy to EA, sis. 6 minutes ago, Deadlocked said: So curious about this because: - Cost of living is very high nowadays - Scalpers JUMPED on the PlayStation 5. PS4 was tapering at the end of its lifespan and wasn't as popular as Switch so Sony didn't create as much supply. There were also shortages for parts. 1
elevate Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Aside from the obvious (Nintendo is a well-known brand, Switch was huge, etc), I think the console is selling out and will do very well because: - Gaming has expanded its userbase substantially over the years. Nintendo has done well to cater to both casual and hardcore gamers, as well as families and kids in general. If you have a look at the Google and Apple stores, you'll see millions of people playing (imo mediocre) mostly-gacha mobile games daily. You also see it in the growth of demographics for games like "cozy games" (ie. Stardew Valley types) and Nintendo is seen as a natural progression for that market, in comparison to more hardcore competitors. - Such little competition in the market means Sony, Nintendo, and MS essentially have free reign on pricing. While they have increased competition from PC gaming - especially Valve - the originals still command the market share and can charge whatever they want to. Given prices are going up (Sony just raised PS5 prices in Australia, for eg), it makes sense that people will buy the Switch 2 asap, because it's unlikely to drop in price for many years, regardless of the game lineup. - I have no evidence of this other than my own observation and I'm curious to know if others disagree, but I also think the pandemic really shifted how the world consumes media. I feel the world has become more isolated since then (even though I actually think the opposite is true for me, weirdly, and I was a very isolated kid), and gaming is one of the creature comforts people have, so they essentially leave reserved funding for spending on games / systems, regardless of cost of living increases. I also think Youtube Gaming / Twitch and the growth of streamers ties into this. Gaming is relaxing and the world is scary, so it's considered an essential purchase. 2

The absolute NERVE of you posting this after their tone-deaf game and service pricing so far. Anyway I know this is a celebration thread for the new console so I'll see myself out. I feel like you all let nostalgia cloud your judgment. Switch launched with 10 titles. Wii U had 34 games. Wii had 20. GameCube had 12. Nintendo 64 actually had only 2 games at launch. SNES launched with 5 games. NES launched with 17 games. Switch 2's price is middle-of-the-pack for Nintendo consoles and one of their only consoles they've had to sell at a loss ($50 per console) so I don't see how the price could get better without a hardware revision 1

It sucks, but I need you girlies to realize you were paying the exact same price for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's base game as you are paying for Mario Kart World. And if you get the bundle for the Switch 2 console, the $50 you're paying for the game would be equal to $39 in 2017. 1 1

Not you doubling down and justifying Nintendo's scummy pricing practices for a second time. Nintendo fans truly are something else. Edited April 25 by Onyxmage 1
