FRIDAY MIDDAY UPDATE: Mr. Zaslav, I'd like to direct your attention over to the motion picture executive suite where co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have an absolute, jaw-dropping hit on their hands in Legendary's A Minecraft Movie. Let the record show.

 

Today is $50M alone, and that includes last night's near-$11M in previews. The weekend is well north of $100M at 4,263 theaters, with some rivals seeing $130M+. It's clearly the biggest opening YTD on a 3-day basis ahead of Captain America: Brave New World's $88.8M. That also means it will be the biggest weekend of 2025 YTD for all movies, outstripping the $154M sum from February 14-16.

Just came back from watching this and it'sa great movie. A kids movie ofc but it has so many easter eggs and references for real minecraft players

Watched it yesterday, I had a fun time. It's a 7/10 for me but the kids in the audience were clapping and cheering like it was a WWE episode. This movie is going to have a good word of mouth among its target audience, a billion might happen.

Jennifer Coolidge was the absolute highlight for me, I wish she had more scenes

 

But the movie is kind of a mixed bag imo. I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if I understood most of the references. Very childish, but some of the absurdity made me chuckle a few times.

 

The theater was packed though, and I was kinda gagged that people actually clapped at the end, since most of the audience was above like 15 years of age
