I went to see her at the opening night of Higher Than Heaven tour. I had tickets for Brightest Blue tour, but she cancelled so I really wanted to see her at this one. Anyway decided to splash out and purchase the Meet and Greet package. (The only second time I ever did - first time was Dido and she was incredible, sweet and genuine and just a pure joy!) Back to Ellie... Part of the M&G was soundcheck, they kept us at the back of the venue, she did one song, never even looked at us. 

 

Anyway M&G was a disaster. She was uncomfortable. Now I understand if a person/artist is shy, but I also understand that they DON'T HAVE TO do M&G if they don't like it. If you decide to do M&G be prepared for it, or don't do it.  She was uncomfortable, yet had no problem telling people that she won't be signing anything. So there was maybe like 20 of us. Only 4 people had something with them for her to sign. One of these was a young guy (19 maybe if even) who had a photo of himself with Ellie from years ago. She told him, like the rest of us, that she won't sign it. I love how these artists are always so shy at M&Gs or other interactions, but during the release week, they will have 5 massive in-store signings, sign to thousands of people, take photos and only because they know that will help them to sell the product and hopefully reach that number one chart spot. Yet at a m&g when they already have your money they are shy and fragile creatures.

 

Anyways to top it off, the photos her "professional photographer" (some assistant with a fancy camera they never used before) were horrible! I mean those photos were blurry, some completely unrecognisable, and just plain bad. I mean even Nokia 3310 would take a better photos. Thankfully someone called it out, made a tweet about it, it went somewhat viral and even Ellie responded to it that she doesn't recognise herself... So under that pressure her team and Ticketmaster refunded everyone the price of Meet and Greet package (so in the end, I met her for free lol). The worst thing was, the whole experience was so bitter and left a very bad aftertaste. The cherry on top was her tweet after the show how amazing it was to talk to everyone and how nice it was to meet everyone. So false as in person, right there in the room, the said **** all to all of us and honestly she would have done better not to do the mg in the first place.

thank you for sharing your story sister, this is not the first i've heard of ellie's backstage behaviour in this light. there is a lot to be said about artists like ellie, christina aguilera, katy perry, sky ferreira etc. you hear the stories, you look at the state of their careers and it all just makes sense you know?

The worst part about this is her waiting so long to offer an explanation and further over-communicating. Paying guests deserve to know about cancellations as soon as possible, especially with the money that is put towards attending a show. The performing artist knows why a concert has been canceled; that's not something they should hesitate to share—even if, depending on the circumstance, they need to bend the truth just a bit.

 

It's fair for anyone to be frustrated and disappointed, but that doesn't give people a right to be disrespectful towards her. If she is shy and sensitive, which seems to be the case, she should get someone from her team to handle communicating such messages and exchanges and just avoid it entirely, herself, so that's not something she has to face directly—while still understanding the frustrations her fans may have.

 

This is an unfortunate situation all the way around, for both her and her fans.

I've heard rumblings about her for a long time. I think there must be some truth to it, so not surprised she's acts like that. Just kind of disappointed that instead of being diva, she's just acting very lame. She needs to get away from the discord - those stans are going to turn on her someday, and/or use their proximity to her to benefit themselves to throw her under the bus. I've seen this behavior play out many times.

 

Also, I have to say, alt pop girls appear to be far messier than their commercial pop girl counterparts, and I think it's because they get gassed up by critics like P4K, get anointed by "cool" people & older legends, and receive the fan validation, but because they're lower profile, they get away with messy behaviors due to less visibility and their cult-like stans validating everything they do (smaller group leads to less varying opinions IMO), so due to these circlejerks,  they all become out-of-touch fairly quickly, whereas the big pop girls have to be ready for the stones of everybody, so end up weirdly more grounded (in most cases).

As usual, social media is the worst thing that has happened to both artists AND their fans. Artists who are smart, don't engage too much with their fans (who are complete strangers btw) online and fans who have lives are not trying to @ their fav artists all day, every day like they're on a first name basis. The "relatable" era from the '10s dun damn near ruined everyone but it's no coming back from it, I fear.

 

Those that bought tickets for her cancelled shows should try to get a refund, charge it to the game and move on from her if they're very upset.

Cancelling her concerts 1 or 2 hours before they're supposed to start, or cancelling a concert and not giving any explanation for weeks is called being unprofessional and thinking she is above accountability.

 

If that's her "best" right now, then she needs to take a break until she can actually be professional and be respectful to her fans.  I think some artists forget this is a two-way street, and if her fans start to feel like she's  disrespecting them and their time, they will call her out and put pressure on her to do good by them.  That's just how it is.  If she can't handle that, then perhaps she should do less shows and less promo.
