Like, we all liked Anora there, but as a BP? Important to note that the Grammys were also down for the same reason, whereas the GGs were not I tend to think that there's no saving the ratings and they should pander to the audience they have instead of chasing an audience they'll only get back if there's an Oppenheimer on the table. And I'm sure most of that crowd is quite pleased with last night's results; Brutalist and Anora are in the top 15 highest rated films of the year on letterbox, and the top 2 (Dune + I'm Still Here) both picked up wins as well. It's the normies (and contrarians, I guess) who got nothing. I do think the major film festivals hold way too much influence over the awards cycle these days, though. But I don't know how you do anything about that. And the Globes benefit from being first. After that you can generally assume what most of the winners will be and I'm sure lots of people lose interest. And honestly, who wants to see them giving trophies to last year's films three months into the current one? They've really stretched out the calendar the last handful of years and I don't think it helps draw an audience (but it does help foreign language films get above the line nominations). 1 1
IBeMe Posted March 4 Posted March 4 the show itself was a little bit of a let down. The pacing was bad so even word of mouth was probably a non factor and so the viewership prob stalled
KylieistBoi Posted March 4 Posted March 4 It was boring and uneventful, and after the second Sean Baker win it became stale Hollywood is churning out content like there is no tomorrow but at some point they should take the time to watch them as well, maybe that way they wouldn't nominate/award the same movies in every category 3
Paddy Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Because nowadays the public doesn't want to watch celebrities giving themselves awards in a 3 hour long boring show. Not with all the scandals Hollywood was facing the last few years and still is. Where celebrities are out of touch with anything normal. People have their own problems to deal with and don't want to celebrate films they have never even heard of. 1
songmove Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Tbh that's pretty stable but they need to change something about the show overall.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted March 4 ATRL Moderator Posted March 4 Anora holding 93% of Oppenheimer's ratings while earning 5% as much as the box office. Talent! 3
CampfireSmoke Posted March 4 Posted March 4 People are going to the movies less and less too. Barbieheimer was a cultural phenomenon
est. in 90s Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I didn't like Conan as host, but 18M is still more than I expected considering how much social media claims they won't watch yet the show is always at the top of the trending list across all socials
Marla Singer Posted March 4 Posted March 4 They should've televised the Razzies instead if they wanted ratings.
