Kylizzle Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Stable despite no smash movies like Oppenheimer / Barbie seems good to me 10 2
Vroom Vroom Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Pretty decent considering how lackluster most of the movies were 1
getBusy Posted March 4 Posted March 4 After YEARS of headlines talking about ratings being down, I feel like award shows have negative viewers at this point 3

vuelve88 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 People tuned in to see Ariana and Cynthia perform and then stopped watching when Ariana lost her category. 7 2 1
Acuminatus Posted March 4 Posted March 4 This wasn't the strongest year for movies, so it makes sense.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I feel like movie award shows need to try harder to get younger people interested in actually seeing these shows again. Viewership isn't really about who wins what, it's about what will captivate an audience. The ONLY moment that did that last night at at all was Ari and Cynthia. You don't need to do cheap stunts like Will's slap to get ratings but I do think The Oscars and other award shows could try a little harder to have some more modern pizzazz. I can't help but feel like this show really caters to boomers and older people. 3
HausOfPunk Posted March 4 Posted March 4 It was pretty boring overall so I'm not surprised. Felt like it was missing something.
Gwendolyn Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) I feel the general public have become more and more distant with the Oscars as the years go by. Gone are the days where Best Picture category was filled with movies that many people would recognise and have seen in cinemas It's not the Oscars fault for that since things have changed so rapidly since the early 2010s due to streaming, social media etc. People don't have disposable income to see Oscar bait movies so instead they stick to the blockbusters, with 2023 being a special exception. Tried to discuss the ceremony with colleagues and they had only seen Wicked/Dune 2 and didn't know what Anora or majority of the nominees were . The numbers are still great for 2025 though. I mean tbh what even happened in the ceremony worth noting? Obviously Ari and Cynthia right at the beginning. Then a 100th James Bond tribute that was totally unnecessary and made no sense. Besides that and a couple notable wins…? How will that keep people interested for 4 hrs? IMO there should be at least 1 musical performance every 30 mins. Why they didn't have the best original song nominees perform is beyond me. You could've had H.E.R. perform her Diane song at least. Choices! Also invite more talented popular artists to perform. Do something surprising like when Eminem came and have a rapper RAP on the Oscar's stage. Surprise me!! 1
HASHTAGPOW Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I blame the baddie who likes to drink tears, and fears nothing
Stuart Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Of course, when the French grandma started singing, people said "F- that sh-, let's go to bed" 5
Vixen Eyes Posted March 4 Posted March 4 i bet if Emelia Perez didnt come out at all, the views wouldnt have decreased, either at all or by 7% i think the decrease is because of how terribly that film was received by the internet lol 1
elevate Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Honestly shocked it wasn't lower. I think this is the Conan / Ariana draw preventing further haemorrhaging. I knew it would drop after some of the wins last year, and the drops will be massive next year unless there's some major draw. We need the Oscar voters to watch all the movies, even the ones they're uncomfortable with, and go with bold and new films, rather than films we've seen many times repackaged again. They need to pay attention to the folks from the loser / weirdo film buff communities like Letterboxd and such. Like, we all liked Anora there, but as a BP? Absolutely wild. Important to note that the Grammys were also down for the same reason, whereas the GGs were not. The Oscars is also about to undergo a new licensing deal, as well, so it couldn't be worse timing. There's a rift that's been occurring between older and younger voters for years now, and after a temporary break in 2023, it seems we're on a downward spiral again. The Emilia Perez controversy was never going to reel in viewers and they've already lost the Marvel / Star Wars crowd. What Conan said about the Oscars sticking around is correct, but the production will be noticeably smaller and less glamourous within 5 years, I think, because I expect very little to change. 5
Elementary Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Every year it's the same clown show and pretentiousness. Not sure why anyone still bothers to watch and/or cares about who wins or not. 1

There's lots of thing the Oscars should do better but I really don't agree with this idea that it needs to cater towards young people. You hear this all the time, this unicorn of capturing the attention of the TikTok generation. It's not the solution, they don't care about any of this. The Oscars need to focus on the audience it already has. The people who love movies, who love watching the show. Focus on an entertaining show about celebrating movies and the industry. 2 3
