Girl can hit a note! Can she convey anything with her vocals? She is an emotional black hole. Like take True Seekers for example - it's meant to be the emotional apex of the album and she has the flavour of water. She sounds like she's reading a script and being told what pitch she should hit but has absolutely no connection to it whatsoever. Again for Jessica Rabbit it works because there's meant to be that disconnect, and for the first two albums she was firmly in her her studio-singer lane (where she should be), but for their other albums - the ones where she's given anything to do - she fails miserably. I think she just doesn't have the chops.

I'm kind of gaslighting myself into really liking Bunky Pop :fan:

This is so weird because True Seekers reads as incredibly emotional to me and is my most revisited track from Texis due to Alexis hitting all the right notes, no pun intended. I think this just goes to show how subjective music really can be depending on who is listening.

One of her worst vocal performances yet :giraffe: and it feels weirdly underproduced for them

Spoiler

The melodies are great. Imagine this album is good after all of that

My favorite single of the three, I think

This Summer is excellent :jonnycat: they are 3/3 so far

Omg this album is going to be amazing

Yea I dunno. Nothing is sticking for me. It's like the sound is trying to be "crazy and weird" but ends being predictable and… boring? Maybe the album as a whole makes me change my mind

Another year, another failed comeback attempt cosplaying as more interesting than they are in a fraudulent attempt to reclaim their legacy as the progenitors of hyperpop they delusionally claim to be :giraffe:

Is it all a grift or do they really believe it? It feels like they googled 100gecs in 2020 and decided to spend the 2020s manifesting their way into modern discourse but have no idea how to channel it musically, so it feels lifeless and workshopped to death. Endless attempts at spontaneity and chaos and there isn't a single original moment in it. I can hear them thinking, wow this sledgehammer guitar riff will really crash in and catch them off guard! And they do it every single time. When you can see the working you'll never be impressed by the answer, and they're doing middle school algebra.

I wonder if they're happy with how it all turned out for them. They didn't even, musically speaking, peak in high school because their hype lasted less than two calendar years. Is it financially viable for them? Back to the pillow factory, Alexis. I wonder if she enjoys singing this at her age - it definitely doesn't sound like it.

Bunky Pop / This Summer / Badly are all quite nice! And she actually sounds good on the chorus of Pulse Drips Quiet (shame about the rest of that song).

Drag them I guess :deadbanana2: The singles were cute but not very exciting, felt very much on autopilot. I do like This Summer but even that feels like a Texis outtake. Lowkey scared to listen to it tomorrow

I was expecting worse lashings from that member tbh so I'm still pretty hyped to hear this album tonight :ryan3:

I hope we at least get another music video this era.

New album out now!! Lemme start listening :jamming:

One of my most anticipated releases this year so far. I have to say I am a little disappointed in it on my initial listen. I will listen a few times tomorrow to see if that changes.

I only had one quick listen through on laptop speakers while I was working, so pinch of salt required, but I had a lot of fun with this! I find it much more earnest than ms @Diarrhoea does and believe in the fun they're having on these songs. Its deeply millennial and earnest in a way that feels appropriate for their trajectory as a band. Let me sit with it a bit more but an initial positive :flower2:

It's a nice summer album

Nothing really groundbreaking but it is indeed a fun listen. Probably slightly weaker than Texis to me

Loving the album so far! :jamming:  Very fun and summery

Roxette Ric, Blasted Shadow, Really Special Cool Thing and Pulse Drips Quiet were my fave of the new songs so far. Definitely gotta give it some more listens.

Fantano praising the album
