Streaming for the week

Wild Thoughts 36.3M and TWIL around 30M (have it at 30.7M)

Wild Thoughts 89k sales and TWIL ~30k is a huge difference

Oh my bad, I thought the sales difference was lower.

But hey, I didn't think that streaming between the two was that close.

Thank you for those numbers anyway ^^

Sure

TWIL did better than WT on Youtube. So that narrowed the gap there.

2M better to be exact and that is exactly the gap between the 2 this week.

You should probably know by now that 5 points is very easily within my margin of error

Thanks. Hopefully they will somehow manage it. Although I think this week might be its peak.

I completely get what you're saying, and you're right. But I think that debuts are not as high as they were before thanks to a better calculation of the popularity of the songs.

I mean, back in early 2010s, a huge fanbase was enough to send a song straight to number 1, even if the song clearly did not clicked with the GP (see Hold It Against Me). Now, with streaming, I think that we have a better measure of the real popularity of a song. And as a result, songs rarely debut at the top of the charts because they are NOT the most popular of the week. The majority of the GP won't know a song the first week of its release if they are not music fans like us or if they don't turn on the radio for the whole week.

K.Dot, Ed, Taylor, Drake, JB, JT, and Eminem are possibly the only acts who can debut at #1

Rihanna and Beyonce could if they had proper lead single releases

the verdict isn't out with Ariana yet...but i feel like she has potential to with her lead single

yeah you are right.  But maybe they should tone down Radio a bit too then.

With the radio audience growing, that will not happen anytime soon.

Yeah, it's easy to forget, but radio still very much matters. Just a couple days ago, Nielsen released a brief report underscoring its continued influence. Here are a couple slides from it:

of course it matters, usually I am against its weight on the Hot 100, more because it's easier to manipulate (tho nowadays Streaming isn't any better) and it favors artists over others etc.

but yeah I didn't know it was still on the rise
