Should I cancel my flights?

I have this group of foreign friends I am traveling with once a year. We met on a EU project and became friends. Not really close to any of them but we really work well as a group.

Right now, financially I'm not in a very good position but I should be okay in February. This trip is late January, in two weeks. So my plan was to pay for the tickets and then figure out from who to borrow money at home in order to surive til the trip. However, I will for sure need a lot of money once I am there for the 4 days in total. So now I'm thinking who is the best person to borrow money from and I ******* hate it!

Also, I live with my parents who are quite old and sick, especially my dad, they depend on me, especially now during the winter. They are always againts my trips since its never a direct flight and it takes a lot of time to get to the final destination so they are constantly worried since a few times my flights have gotten cancelled and I had to sleep at the airport. Also in this case they would need to figure out what to do while I'm gone.

And tbh right now I'm not in the mood to go at all. I'd rather travel during the spring or summer when the weather is nice and I have money. But I have a major FOMO :rip: what should I do? I wanna cancel my tickets so bad :cries: dont wanna be overthinking about this every single freakin day.

Having to borrow money for any part of a trip is never a good sign. I would cancel it if I were you.

you're gonna be miserable on the trip with barely any money and probably ruin the time for your friends, just being honest, stay home.

I feel like you should really never borrow money to travel. You can go when you're more financially secure and the outcome will likely be a better trip. Say you're on this trip you can't afford and an emergency comes up? Not something you should risk.

Travel with money concern is a *****, I was there and I wasn't be able to enjoy because I was worrying about the spending all the time, which made me feel really sad and bad.

Just cancel and try to stay with your family and also to figure out the money situation, and not even to mention that you and that group of friends are not really that close, you wouldn't miss much.

Your gut says cancel - so do it.

Cancel and use/save the money for something you're actually excited about

I hate FOMO, I hear you sis! it can be such a debilitating feeling and the worst part is the only things that can be done are to not miss out or to fake it til you make it by distracting yourself in any way possible. but much like all other feelings, it's fleeting. it won't last the whole time. sure there might be a flit of it returning if you see them post on social media about it, but what I'd do is mute their stories and posts (if you are indeed following them) for a good… couple of weeks til they've long since returned from the trip, and cancel your flights. it's okay, it's one time! and even if in the future you end up going elsewhere with other people, that's fine too! it's all about your mental health rn and what's best in this moment, and to me it sounds like taking care of yourself and your family and cancelling for now is exactly that

Don't ask to borrow money from other people and jeopardize your friendships over a four-day trip you don't even want to go on.

yeah don't go sis, don't cancel your flight if they want money, just don't go

You only mentioned reasons not to go to it, so your unconscious already knows whats best for you.

Or just don't show up. There's no way you have to pay cancellation fees wth :deadbanana: Or look into name change fees and see if you could sell them

I hate to say it but knowing it's not your money is gonna take away from the experience so much. You can still have fun though.

Don't show up. Why would you pay to cancel?

Just don't check in. They won't care if you don't turn up

It sounds like a no brainer from what you've listed. Particularly the financial part and your sick parents. If you feel like you will in the future want to go, save some of the current funds you planned to use for it for later.
