Would 'Venus' by Lady Gaga had been a hit?

It would have gotten official released if it was resonating with audiences, but it didn't. She even promoted it with performances and prematurely announced it as a single and DWUW still got more traction.

I think it was too nice, although it really represents the album well. So if she had released it, it would have been from an artistic standpoint and not commercial, but at that point in her career she needed all the chart traction she could get.

I love the song but no. It's just a bit too out there to be a proper hit, especially without a digestible concept for the GP. Especially with the vibe around her at the time.

They were right to push DWUW because it's an absolute smash, the R Kelly of it all ruined it though. :chick1:

A top 10 for sure. The video would have been fire.

Not sure about the GP but it could have became a gay classic with an iconic video. DWUW with Hard Kelly was tragic and a stain on her career

I love the song, but no. The song is coming off a bit strong and is very disjointed, it sounds like 4 different songs in one. Also, the bridge isn't all that. Pop radio wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole, despite the out-of-this-world chorus.

I also vividly remember a well known radio station in my country playing it once the day it was released. When the song was done the radio host called it one of the fugliest songs he had ever heard.

I do hope she performs it on one of her tours again.

When I think of ARTPOP, songs like Venus, Aura or ARTPOP come to mind and they feel like a better representation of the project. They deserved single treatment, music videos and they would have aged so well, they would have also been loved by fans as singles at the time and got retrospective acclaim by the rest years later.

Absolutely not but I really wanted that music video. :jonny5:

In some magical alternative universe DWUW didn't feature R Kelly and was the smash hit second single and then she released Venus and GUY with videos as a gift to the fans. :gaycat6:

Absolutely not. I don't like many of her songs but this one I actively despise, one of the worst MPG songs in existence. On the other hand, Do What U Want deserved so much more, one of her finest moments.

If anything, DWUW was the monster hit that never happened.

She should re-issue Do What U Want with The Weenkd's vocals replacing R. Kelly's.

I think she can't without crediting R Kelly. He's credited as a writer on the Christina version. I don't think he actually wrote anything outside of his parts because there's a whole solo gaga version leaked but there was probably some deal with him where they can't remove his credit.

Not at the time but if it had gotten a great video, I wonder if it would have gotten a resurgence on TikTok like Judas.

It's an amazing song, but it would never be a hit with those lyrics.

It's too campy and over-the-top for GP's basic tastes.

But a music video with the Aphrodite look would have ATE.  :loki:

No.

An amazing chorus trapped in an average song.

This.

it was a hit on my spotify for several years so i'm inclined to say yes

it definitely would've been better in the long run since DWUW was taken off streaming so had there been a different single this wouldn't be an issue

Today - maybe, but definitely not in 2013.

Back in 2013 DWUW was much better single choice, as it's more GP friendly

No but it would've been an interesting video

such a great song, idc if it was a hit, not everybody has to like this type of music

in oblivia maybe

dwuw on the other hand had actual chances to become a worldwide megasmash

No, it lack the extra oomph to make a hit. I don't know where, but something about it feels flat. I actually like the Vaporwave remixes of it more than the original because it sound more layered than what we got.
