Rolling Stone: The 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far - #1 Beyoncé

Ugh Lemonade is such a ******* masterpiece. :jonny:

I remember after ST everyone was certain that she would never be able to top it. Everyone was wondering what her next move would be. But then she came out with Lemonade and knocked it out the park once again. And then she did it again with Renaissance, and again with Cowboy Carter (yes you read that right :coffee2:).

I did used to question Formation being the closing track when All Night was right there (the same way Run The World as 4's closer felt weird instead of I Was Here), but as the years have gone on I get the vision. It just works and it's a great way to cap the album off.

Lemonade is actually the Bey album I revisit most often. With 12 tracks, all killer no filler, I just find it so easy to listen to front to back.

So Coldplay's 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', released in 2002, is good enough to be included on the Greatest Albums of All Time list but not on the Greatest Albums of the 21st Century? Rolling Stone isn't even trying anymore :rip:

Outside of Taylor and Bad Bunny, that top 10 is killer.

Self-Titled is a good album, but it is overrated because of the circumstance of its release. It changed the music industry because of its marketing strategy, not the actual music

Lemonade on the other hand is a culturally significant album and deserves its spot on this list.

I agree Lemonade is better than ST but I do think there's credit for ST's music that often gets overlooked.

It very much was one of the first pop albums of its time to be well regarded by critics as a full artistic work rather than just a commercial one that also happened to be good. It helped usher in the era of poptimism in the next decade that we're still in where we routinely see more and more commercial albums getting praised as bodies of work (1989 followed it, and just this year BRAT is perhaps the best example). This changing of how critics saw pop albums, and also in how artists saw pop albums is a significant change from the pre-2013 era where albums were very much focused on conforming to whatever trend was hot in order to get hits, rather than crafting music for the full experience.

Beyonce is the greatest artist of our generation. Taylor has the stats but not the praise from her peers and industry. Shes just McDonald's of the industry, sells a lot of cheap burgers

Greatest Popstar of the Century with the Greatest Album of the Century oh wow oh wow :jonny5:

That said, this is such a stan war'd, engagement bait-y list, it's hard to believe all the best albums of the past 25 years have all been released by major popstars, like come on Rolling Stone.

She should have 3 AOTY at this point. Well at least she got the critic acclaim through other publications and awards. :clap3:

when you consider just how many albums have been released in the last 25 years....having any spot in the top 250 is an achievement itself
