Why did Jesy Nelson (and Polydor) just give up?

So everyone knows the Boyz rollout was a complete disaster. What confuses me is what happened next? Dropped after releasing a single song. No follow up single, nada.

Yes the backlash was bad but I'm sure some people would've tuned in to a follow up song, out of curiosity if not anything else. It just seems bizzare, unless she really pissed them off behind the scenes.

And even now she's independent she's released two standalone singles and nothing else. What's going on?

She got the hint.

why wouldn't they?

A mix of the bad quality of the music she was making and the overall perception of her based on the various scandals surrounding her departure from Little Mix and her racism during her debut.

If the music had been good and they could see a turn of events, believe me they would have invested more in her.

Boyz didn't just flop, it was a complete cataclysmic disaster joke. Even people I know who have never heard of Little Mix were dying at JINGO BEW BAWW and all of the memes. She would never be able to recover from that and be taken seriously as a pop star because that's how most people were being introduced to her for the first time.

She already had struggles with mental health in the past, wouldn't be surprised if the universal dragging during/after Boyz turned her off from continuing

It was obvious both she and Polydor saw her as a straddling both the Urban/ Pop' genres internationally. That's a lot of anticipated album streams/ units to shift.

Prior to release they were convinced the U.S. market would be in their back pocket (and the U.K. for sure) - they were wrong.

The timeframe in which her next single was anticipated - was a whole lot less than it takes for someone to have the requisite epiphany that would have led to the evolved image she was expected to have within the timeframe available.

Nobody was down for a white girl from the U.K. to be the next international R&B superstar, when you think about it - it was never going to happen.

Apparently they had a full album worth of songs done and ready so Polydor must have really lost all faith to pull the plug.

Boyz was a complete failure after the first week and that was with them wasting money on Nicki, a big budget video, cameos and a probably expensive sample. All that lead to nothing, and her public image only got worse and worse since the announcement of it. Anyone sane would've seen there was no coming back from that.

She made millions without having a clue who she was on the inside - then from that foundation, she made some ratchet public moves after landing the opportunity to roll her own dice and the judgement over her became cast.

I hope she learns who she is one day before she wastes all her millions - after being convinced to blow big money on huge production videos (as an independent artist), for singles that will ultimately never come anywhere close to the level of traction she wants for them to have.

In July 2022, The Sun reported she and the label parted ways after "failing to agree on new music".

Jesy has also since been removed from Polydor's roster of talent on their website.

A source said: "Jesy decided it was the right time for her to make a clean break.

"She and the label have been going in different directions in recent months. And while there hasn't been a fall-out, Jesy just felt it was better to start afresh now – while everyone was still friends.

"Jesy enjoyed her time with Polydor - but feels, rather than go on together while having such differing musical ideas for the future, she now wants to be able to fully develop her own ideas as an individual artist."

A second music insider added: "Jesy loves the music she has been working on and is really proud of it.

"She has been working hard in Los Angeles and is determined to get it out there and make a success of her solo music."

A spokesman for Jesy said: "Jesy Nelson feels now is the right for her to move in a new direction. As a result, she has decided to part company with Polydor.

Yeah, i didn't understand either. Even though the release was a mess, Boyz still has the highest peak of any of the LM girls as solo artists and it was the only release that kinda went outside the bubble. It wasn't a smash but people def talked about it.

I'm not saying she should be able to drop her album from the get go but an EP would be totally acceptable... but they just gave up :skull:
