XDNA Posted yesterday at 06:26 AM Posted yesterday at 06:26 AM Quote The company's new guidelines prohibit insults about someone's intellect or mental illness on Facebook, Instagram and Threads, as have previous iterations. However, the latest guidelines now include a caveat for accusing LGBTQ people of being mentally ill because they are gay or transgender. Zuckerberg cited "recent elections" and "a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing speech." The long list of changes to the new hate speech guidelines include removing rules that forbid insults about a person's appearance based on race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, religious affiliation, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity and serious disease. Meta also scrapped policies that prohibited expressions of hate against a person or a group on the basis of their protected class and that banned users from referring to transgender or nonbinary people as "it." GLAAD, an LGBTQ media advocacy group, denounced the changes. "Without these necessary hate speech and other policies, Meta is giving the green light for people to target LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups with violence, vitriol, and dehumanizing narratives," https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/meta-new-hate-speech-rules-allow-users-call-lgbtq-people-mentally-ill-rcna186700 If you haven't deleted your account here's another reason.
Alyssa Edwards Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM so... nothing will change over at meta ? 1
Sheep Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM (edited) If this website is anything to go by I agree Spoiler Jokes aside these guidelines made social media a safer space but also hid a lot of people's real opinions about us. Social media should reflect its userbase for better and for worse if it's going to be a primary source of information. As long as it's okay to properly call out and attack users of hate speech in return I don't fully disagree with this. If MAGAs didn't feel the need to self-censor 24/7 and were educated instead of shamed into silently keeping their backwards views we wouldn't have a christofascist dictatorship starting here in less than 2 weeks. It's worrying that this isn't coming with any measures to break people out of their political echo chambers though because while social media should reflect society, nobody's individual feed actually does. It's hard to feel like this is anything other than an attempt by the ruling corporations to continue radicalizing and dividing the public. Edited yesterday at 06:36 AM by Sheep 1 7 1 10

Rep2000 Posted yesterday at 06:45 AM Posted yesterday at 06:45 AM 3 minutes ago, ohjulia said: Are LGBTQ+ excluded from being mentally ill? This is just obtuse. Meta's new policy removed fact check as well, so they can call you both a convicted rapist and a household object at the same time and get away with it. It's trash social media now.

MatiRod Posted yesterday at 07:19 AM Posted yesterday at 07:19 AM The minute their survival and $ is threatened, the same powerful elite that turned their logo into pride colours will throw gay people under the bus. Sad but predictable. We have to look out for each other in the end. 6

It's basically impossible to have a career in music for example without an active Instagram.
Jotham Posted yesterday at 07:33 AM Posted yesterday at 07:33 AM It's so depressing to see all the progress the LGBT+ movement made suddenly vanish within these past couple of years. 7
Illuminati Posted yesterday at 08:13 AM Posted yesterday at 08:13 AM That video where Zuck looked like he was held at gunpoint said it all, he was word for word speaking like Elon Musk
Velvet Night Posted yesterday at 08:13 AM Posted yesterday at 08:13 AM Zuckerberg seriously looked at Musk and saying "Maybe I should start to emulate him". I'm done with IG now and will delete my account today. 2

Dancehall Queen Posted yesterday at 08:24 AM Posted yesterday at 08:24 AM Post this article on IG, I'm trying to see something.
Hephaestus Posted yesterday at 08:48 AM Posted yesterday at 08:48 AM I would be upset by it IF this meant anything changing for Meta's users. As we all know though those categories weren't actually protected even when they were mentioned in the guidelines. Seeing corporations bend to Trump's USA is appalling though. Scary.
