I've massively reduced my social media use since the election and my life has only gotten better. My time is freed up and I'm not constantly looking at garbage, which is all these apps ever provide now. I don't even need social media to keep up with family/friends since I've began connecting with them offline more frequently to avoid contacting them on social media. I simply don't have a need for the apps anymore. The downsides just outweigh the good too much.

 

I'm more interested in niche communities now like ATRL where I can follow niche topics. I'm even considering print publications to get news again. Social media could have been such an incredible and innovative benefit to humanity if it wasn't run by people who gave no care to how their technology hurts the masses.

There's basically no safe social media left. X, Facebook, Instagram and even YouTube have become a cesspool of hate and blatant anti-intellectualism. The only social media where I see people mostly engaging in forward thinking discussions is Reddit but that's probably because the Tumblr girlies migrated there.

+1, deleted Twitter and never felt better. I haven't used FB in years. I only see my friends' stories on IG and check Tiktok sporadically (my feed is mostly dogs and cats).

Purity testing implies there are only minor inconsequential differences that should hold no bearing nor division within factions of a party.

 

Here, one faction of the party decided that aiding and abetting a genocide was more important than winning an election. That's not a purity test. That's a schism, brought entirely upon themselves for no other reason beyond blind loyalty to another country besides their own. Kamala Harris is one of the most politically talentless individuals to run for president, and it was immensely satisfying to watch her certify her own embarrassing defeat in front of everyone on national television yesterday.

 

America deserves not only Donald Trump, but the blowback that electing him will invite.

Just because you see a bunch of ATRLers still discussing Applause vs. Roar/Britney vs. Xtina in the Base, doesn't mean politically we're still stuck in that time frame too

 

I already noticed the shift way back in the mid-2010s when I saw gay users in here start openly spewing anti-trans and anti-non binary talking points, thinking they were cool to do that. Hell, not even 5 years ago (I think), there was an active conservative base thread in the Lounge section before mods moved them to The Roof

 

Western liberals started noticing that their leaders and big corporations are embracing fascism in 2025, and then they suddenly turned their virtue signaling, acting like they just swallowed the red pill or whatever
