Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a series of major changes to the company's moderation policies and practices Tuesday, citing a shifting political and social landscape and a desire to embrace free speech.

 

Zuckerberg said that Meta will end its fact-checking program with trusted partners and replace it with a community-driven system similar to X's Community Notes.

Beyond the end of the fact-checking program, Zuckerberg said the company will be eliminating some content policies around hot-button issues including immigration and gender, and refocus the company's automated moderation systems on what he called "high severity violations" and rely on users to report other violations.

Lastly, Zuckerberg said Meta would work with the incoming Trump administration to promote free speech around the world, though he did not detail any steps toward that goal.

i mean i actually think fact checking is a good thing. Truths deserve to be acknowledged. however, they need to make sure algorithmic bias doesn't affect the way how posts are being fact checked.

These people are so beyond evil and it's infuriating to watch the masses kiss their ass. The alt right love to play victim when they get called out for their lies and conspiracies and now they're being rewarded for it. This makes me sick. My Facebook is deactivated. I only have a finsta to stalk cute people but maybe I need to delete everything for good. New Year's resolutions didn't officiate until yesterday (cause Monday lol). Maybe I need to cleanse myself from all of this mess once and for all. It would be healthy to wake up and not feel the need to open social media, however, since I don't watch the news I will feel a sense of FOMO especially if it's a serious event. That's what's stopping me from committing to a social media black out. I can't be completely ignorant to what's going on. I need to get immediate news from somewhere…

Most of the members I speak to here knew the brief political and cultural honeymoon with social media in the early to mid Obama era wouldn't last.
