Ariana introduced herself musically as a solo artist rather than being in a girl group, so we got used to her presence from Yours Truly. Also, clock that she essentially built her youtube clout on impersonating other singers like Britney and Xtina. By the time it got to My Everything, she was big enough to be on a global brand level (perfumes, fashion wear, partnerships etc.) Then she was able to have a smooth transition to her Atlanta gurl wannabe era since she had been building it up after being with Big Sean

Do people used to think Ari was black? I used to think she was Latina especially due to her last name, maybe buracial but I guess Italian is also close enough
