Imagine what Cuba could achieve if it weren't under an authoritarian dictatorship that oppresses and kills its citizens

Well, as a Westerner, I emphasize the issue of the embargo because it is perpetrated by the US, the dominant power of "my" civilization/geopolitical bloc/whatever-you-wanna-call-it. At the end of the day, it's one of "my" countries that is actively and illegally strangling the Cuban economy. It's natural that I, as a Westerner, will focus on that. It's the area where we have the most power, however reduced it might be.

This is not to portray the Cuban government as perfect, but to address the very large elephant in the room that is the embargo. Will lifting it magically turn Cuba into a utopia? No, but I have yet to read a single pro-embargo argument that can't be summarized as "The starving will continue until you pick a government WE like!". It especially reeks of hypocrisy when the US government a) is selective about who to embargo, b) does not have the legal or moral right to act as the world police.

I understand that it's fustrating to see Cuba's authoritarian tendencies ignored. I myself feel a bit queasy in (critically) supporting certain states, though I still think it's a rational option.

But since you yourself believe in picking the lesser of two evils and acnowledge the embargo places a massive strain in daily Cuban lives, surely you'll agree that "current regime with no embargo" is better than "current regime and embargo"?
