Europe Posted Saturday at 10:57 PM Posted Saturday at 10:57 PM Very short 80 second scientific summary, but basically: People who sit for more than 8 hours a day have a higher chance of developing cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Spoiler Your body hates being still, period. Your joints are made to be bent, as does your back. We should only sit less than 4 hours daily, according to the NHS. We should sit when we eat (each meal should only take 20 minutes to finish), when we're recovering from sickness, and the last few hours of the day when we're winding down for sleep. Even the, we should break up those hours once every half hour by moving. That's it. People who stand on the job should move, not sit. Every time we sit, we increase our risks for slipped discs in the back and arthritis. We increase risk for cancer, heart disease, strokes, type-2 diabetes, and deep-vein thrombosis. Do you find yourself sitting too much?

sugarysunflower Posted Saturday at 11:22 PM Posted Saturday at 11:22 PM So many of us would be fired if we told our managers we can only sit at our desk / office jobs for a maximum of four hours. They'd howl in our face. And wouldn't shovel out money for standing desks or desk treadmills.

Pikachoo Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago that sounds like a correlation, not a causation. people who sit more are more likely to be phyiscally inactive and overweight. but anyway, thank you Xtina for your public service announcement
