Why do you like your fave(s)?

Simple question. What is it about your favourite artist(s) that grabs your attention? Great vocals? Their storytelling? Commitment to their visuals?

I'll start:

Kesha

My biggest compliment to Kesha is that regardless of the sound/genre, her personality always comes through. There are songs on every album (and her unreleased) which only she could get away with.

Tove Lo

Tove just has a great ear for hooks. She doesn't have a bad song! Every song is god damn catchy af. Damn it.

Avril Lavigne

My love for Avril is rooted in nostalgia of course but she has such a stunning voice. Her cover of What Child Is This? Whew.

Bey inspires me to be the best at whatever I'm doing, to always be a student and a master.

Plus her amazing performances and her music just makes me feel so good! Beyonce just gives you the experience you never knew you needed tbh:gayoncecat2:

Hikaru Utada -- consistently excellent compositions. Simply the Queen of Songwriting.

Madonna -- I'm a latter-day Madonna apologist/evangelist. I actually loved Hard Candy, MDNA, Rebel Heart, and Madame X, as messy and chaotic as they were. An of course 82-05 was a flawless run. She simply has the most dynamic career. Her reinventions are fun to watch, and there is an intelligence to her work that is missing from most other pop stars.

Bey -- Flawless discography, incredible performer. Like Madge, I love her reinventions, and again there is an intelligence and thoughtfulness to Bey's work missing from her peers.

Aaliyah - just how effortlessly cool she was and the way she incorporated classic R&B into her music to make it feel current for a new generation. i was clowned as a kid for liking "old people music" so it felt a bit like a vindication to have a new artist that i felt connected to in that sense.

Janet - My sister used to force me to learn the choreography with her from when i was about 3 :rip: She's simply the greatest female performer of all time imho with an incredible discography and the most charismatic smile.

Prince - I can't put into words without getting emotional. he saved my life.

Madonna because she represented a form of stoicism, gave me confidence and her music gave me frisson.

Kate Bush because her first six albums spoke to my spiritual, elemental, mellow side and the world within self.

Donna Summer because she has my favorite/ the best voice of any singer ever - she was an innovator and pioneer in the field of syncopated music and her songs are all time classics.

Kylie because she has been and continues to be the perfect conduit for almost every other dance/ pop song ever written and nobody can nail that gift quite like her.

Enya because if Kylie is an extention of the dance/ pop hedonism of Madonna - then Enya is an extention of the spirituality of Kate Bush.

Lana because she visually connects to the nostalgia of my childhood whilst her music takes me down a nuanced spiritual path adjacent to Kate Bush/ Enya.

Blondie because they were innovators and Debbie Harry was so inspirational. Debbie is the one who passed the 'generational blonde' baton to Madonna who in turn passed it to Lady Gaga.

Girls Aloud because they were the purveyor of so many bops and channelled something important.

Weyes Blood because she is the lovechild of Kate Bush and Enya.

I could go on and on.

Doja Cat, Tinashe, Beyoncé - well-rounded performers who put effort (some more than others recently...) into their eras, music, personas and reinvention. some of the last true superstars remaining :heart2:

SZA because her lyrics feel like listening to your bestie's spiralling diary entries and she's always good for a cry or blunt sesh

Charli bc she's a pioneer and introduced me to a whole new subgenre of pop music with Vroom Vroom. :clap3:

Madonna is the blueprint sweetie, and also because she always stood up for the baguettes even when it hurt her career to do so :gaycat1:

Marina is the perfect amount of Tumblr cringe and Familiar FROOT sealed the deal

FKA Twigs because nobody does art pop like her

Camila delivers solid albums despite what others would say.

Taylor has a soothing voice and is a great story-teller, I also really admire her ability to keep thriving in the face of adversity. Coldplay are incredible songwriters melodies-wise, I love their shows and the band is just so full of kindness that they inspire me to be a little less cynical about life.

JO1: Produce 101 japan watch them come from inexperienced people off the streets of japan to one of the best boy groups perfomance wise ever in the spam of 5 years. Great music, cute members.

janet's shyness and freakiness (specifically that combo of black, perpetually anxious, polite with a subdued wild side stemming from sexual repression) just speaks to me and she's one of the best musicians ever.

beyoncé is probably the most exciting artist of our time and all time :alexz: you can tell she really loves music, i would say the same for britney and mariah too, i love creative pop girls

everyone has a diva / MPG of their generation that they gravitate to and mine is ariana. the vocals are one thing but no one really makes the winter-tinged pop/r&b that ariana does. it's quite relaxing and always calms me down. i also believe that ariana improves immensely with each album so it's been fortunate to witness her morphing into a multi-faceted icon.

my music taste would not be what it is without fka twigs, tinashe, charli and kelela. when i was younger, i loved kelis and m.i.a. but without twigs, i wouldn't have gotten into björk (and by extension rosalía, shygirl) same thing with charli and hyperpop and tinashe and jane remover

Shakira.

-Insanely smart. She has a gifted brain
-Looks like some sort of egyptian goddess-odalisca-has that old rockstar vibe within herself
-Her voice is very unique and strange

-Gifted musically. Plays multiple instruments. Songwriter-Producer
-She's a sweetheart-kind-humble and is not involved in fights with her peers or controversies even if theyre shady to her. This is one thing i love about Beyonce too. Theyre hated but they stay classy.
-Love how ecletic, exotic, diverse is her music catalogue. She has touched tons of genres-styles. One of the most diverse popgirls discographies

-She's a World Citizen. She's connected to so many cultures and to the "People" instead of only the Elite like some singers
-She's the top artist of the spanish world. Today they name a lot of basic newcomers but they will never have something as beautiful as Dell-The Fixations-Laundry. Theyre all facade and no substance. Their lyrics suck. Their artistry is lacking. They will never be Shakira! Period.

-Her performing skills are insane, she serves circus performer sometimes with her body movements. She's so elastic. Her concerts are fun
-A miracle and not from the first world. She's Someone coming from the lowest ranks of society and reaching that global stardom and sustaining it in a racist-xenophobic world where third world people are tossed to the side. Thats Crazy.  She's One of a kind in the planet
-She's latina like me  LovePuppy-Female.thumb.gif.fcf6ce05f66d2 Colombian like me too. So i understand her really well, her ideas, cultural customs and experiences

Hyunjin is the most beautiful boy alive plus I love his voice and Stray kids at first sight & listen. Like I listen to there entire discography in 3 days then saw them live the weekend after and even though I was already a Hyunjin Stan I started to became a Stan for the other 7 seeing them in person. They are like a drug to me honestly

Allday had this adorableness to him I just watched the veronicas music video life of the party and I was like omg he is cute then went to check out all his music and also was love at first sight. Listen to his entire discography in a night

I like these boys legit the second I discovered them :dies:

Jordan (the ready set) was for his looks too same with Denis Stoff

I start off having a crush on them then like there music :toofunny3: it's the hair probably

Like Denis Stoff took me a hot minute to get into asking Alexandria since I was more into bmth but then yeah Denis ended up being my fave for 6 years that was probably the longest fave I ever had.

Because her discography is impressive, catchy songs, some of the best music videos ever made, and the best female performer of our time. Not to mention she pushed boundaries, was fearless, and paved the way for MPGs who came after her, most of whom wouldn't be famous today if it weren't for the QOP, the biggest selling and most popular female artist of all time.
