100 Million US album units. Only the biggest of the biggest reach this milestone.

Nearly 40m in US in 2 years alone is the most since Eminem's 2001-2002 (and even bigger than it) :deadbanana4:

Eminem sales consisted largely of four albums at the time and didn't include the consumption of his singles from popular various artist albums. He also didn't have variants. We know a tracklist and a popular song can forever be added into units in the streaming era while when Eminem released subsequent singles the prior ones weren't pressed or purchased anymore. And that's not even taking into account that a large number of people got pirated versions of his music which also didn't count towards his units.

Taylor's units consists of 10+ albums and variants along with constant consumption of the singles and even units from playlists that are today's answers to compilation sets. Eminem's is definitely as or even more impressive.

I did consider his singles sales, he wouldn't be anywhere close to 18m on any year without them.

Almost 40M units in 2 years but only 6M units certified

Brave to try to downplay Taylor's success because she has 10 smash albums. News flash, not every girl's careers die off after their debut album

Your constant need of bringing Gaga into a discussion and being in every Gaga thread is weird.

You're definitely invested in Gaga and her massive peak still has some sort of effect on you. Stay on topic or go to banland.

We all know who that user talks about and a look at their posting history shows that. You Swifties are something else. You will just not accept Taylor isn't the biggest thing since sliced bread.

But yeah, it doesn't fit Gaga considering she had hit albums post her debut but that user meant her.

Nobody was saying that. This thread is saying she is the biggest artist in 2024. You can continue to pretend she wasn't, but that won't change any facts.

I understand why so many people are obsessed with trying to destroy her.

Downward spiral with a new album? Not looking too good.

You left out the part where Eminem's US unit sales in those two years combined were under a third of Taylor's 2023 and 2024, and his biggest individual year (2002) peaked at about 11.2m units.

…and all of that's only if you give him full and exclusive credit for a soundtrack where he appeared on a fourth of the tracks.

"Even more impressive" lmao. Better luck next time:wave2:

Is there a breakdown of the albums that contributed to the 2024 total?

I haven't seen one yet, but I'd keep an eye on Billboard's website for the rest of this week and next week. They may publish an article about this with a breakdown - and it may be limited to their Pro subscribers, but their site is horrible so you can just hit refresh and then quickly stop the page from loading before the paywall loads. :santa:

He did 11M with four albums out. Taylor's units consist of 10+ albums. How is his not more impressive with that knowledge?

I didn't say she wasn't though. Someone compared her year to Eminem and left out the change in consumption and the fact that he only had four albums out at the time while Taylor has 11 and all her re-recordings.

Because he actually did like 8m units with his own material, because 8 < 18, and because we know that discography volume isn't the biggest factor in determining total units moved, like what's not clicking? You don't just divide them up equally as an average over every album in an artist's catalog, that's not how any of this works :deadbanana2: Taylor Swift has the two biggest years in total US music consumption for any artist ever and it's not close, end of sentence!

She still had 11 studio albums to get those 18M units from and Eminem had four albums. If one million people bought all of Em's albums in 2002 it would result in 4M units while if one million bought all of Taylor's albums it would be 11M.

Swifties made sure to let us know that when her albums were occupying the top 10 on the Billboard 200 it wasn't just the same fans purchasing variants and streaming the album over and over and now the tune has changed. Make up your mind lol.

That is again not how any of this works. :lmao: You can't just make up hypothetical consumers who would be willing to buy any and all of an artist's music and pretend you did something and somehow proved that the size of an artist's discography is the primary driver of total units moved. Taylor Swift's consumption is anomalous, and roughly triple any other artist in the industry, specifically because she's the only artist who has ever activated consumers in this way for an entire discography of any meaningful size. No other artist with as many albums as her is doing nearly the same numbers. There are artists - famous, successful artists - with 30 albums that don't do dick in streaming or total units these days. This isn't an averages thing, it's not more impressive to have less albums and still do way less units - the common factor is the artist, aggregate demand is for the artist.

Plus, your whole second paragraph is complete nonsense. We can still maintain that it's not the same people buying over and over again and take the position that she has uniquely activated many casual consumers who remain engaged and keep her consumption high. Like, that's literally a completely internally consistent argument, I don't know what you thought you were doing here. Are you just desperately grasping at anything you can to try to discredit the biggest two years any artist has ever had because you're mad that it's Taylor?
