Tricky Stewart: Ciara's High Price could've been as big as Single Ladies or Umbrella

"I feel after delivering 'Single Ladies' for Bey, and after having an 'Umbrella' for Rih, our hometown superstar had a next level game-changing thing that nobody could turn on and say, 'I got one like that,' Stewart continues. "I truly feel that 'High Price' was our version at that time of the magnitude of what 'Umbrella' and 'Single Ladies' should have been to Ciara for us."

I totally agree. They really messed her up. High Price should've been the lead single with a killer video. It sounded somehow completely different and yet still very Ciara.

That entire album should've been massive tbh. Ciara deserves so much more in the industry

High price is bottom of the barrel for me. Echo should have been huge!!!

It's a cute cut.

I actually love a lot of that album but that song was god awful. Whoever pitched the idea of Ciara who is already vocally challenged sing faux opera needs to be slapped

now go girl deserved to be WAY bigger. Can't believe that flopped especially with that great video. Turn tables would've been a hit if Chris brown hadn't attacked riri and derailed his career.

I like the song but in no way would that song have become an iconic hit.

ciara singing operatically always turned me off from that song :rip: i feel like singles chosen for fantasy ride were perfect, go girl should've been a hit tho

The song he meant to say was Work :coffee:

That album should've catapulted her career to higher heights. She completely elevated her 'crunk n b' sound and then delivered on the pop records. Ugh. I'm still sick Go Girl didn't explode the way it should've. So many should've been hits on that album, and they really could've taken it in several different directions:

Go Girl

High Price

Never Ever

Like a surgeon

Tell me what your name is

I'm on

Love sex magic
Work

Uhhhh yeah no. MAYBE Turntables.

Nah Love Sex Magic is the only single that could have succeeded commercially

Turntables wouldn't work (Chris Brown + the annoying bridge) Honestly Work is the best song combining urban and dance on the album, and if it couldn't have succeeded I don't think any other song in the similar vibe would have been a hit.

For some reason people like Ciara best when she releases strictly urban songs. Probably a combination of reasons: (1) Ciara's first hits being crunk'n'b which already set people's expectations + (2) global audience's (racial) prejudices + (3) Ciara lacks the resources (resources to hits, management, songwriters, marketing budget etc) that Beyonce & Rihanna had. Ciara is the opposite of Kelly Rowland - in that people like Ciara in urban songs and not much else, meanwhile global audience love Kelly's dance songs but largely don't care for her urban songs.

We also need to remember that Keri Hilson was emerging at that time with Knock You Down/ Turning Me On.

IMO Ciara should have followed up LSM with another urban track to make sure she doesn't lose her audience to Keri Hilson. The semi-hit that got away from that album was "G Is For Girl (A-Z)". Or if she had recorded "Ride" sooner and re-released Fantasy Ride with it.

I'm sorry but no :rip: That song is sooo messy production wise it would've never been a hit.

They made the right choice by releasing Love Sex Magic since it actually did well.

Like a Surgeon had the potential to be a hit though.

No it wouldn't :rip: i remember the reaction when this and a snippet of the video leaked, it was hated.

What most people forget or don't know is that Fantasy Ride was supposed to be a 3 disc concept album but that got scrapped when most tracks leaked and then she switched labels. this is what initially caused the backlash that started from her fans that snowballed when the album flopped

iirc none of the tracks that ended up on FR were on the original version.

Turntables could have been a hit but then the Chris and Rih situation happened which caused more backlash for Ciara when she defended working with him.

there was no hit on that album outside of LSM.

Nah. Turntables would have been successful instead

Nah however #Justice4Ride :giraffe:

SL and Umbrella are pop songs with bass and High Price is…not. Nothing about it says global smash, no matter who sang it.

Fantasy Ride is a masterpiece of an album

lol this. High Price is a knock but I can't hear it becoming some huge crossover hit, especially in the late 00s landscape.

Baybeeeeeeeee.

High Price was different but honestly not lead single material. it would have benefited from a hit lead and served better as a 2nd single.

Work ft Missy Elliott would have been a better choice to lead followed by High Price

Work

High Price

Never Ever

Love Sex Magic

Keep Dancin on em
