Imagine it with Selena's breathy, whisper vocals

I love gaga but did you really listen to DWAS and think this song wouldn't be able to smash without gaga? It's a basic ballad with an amazing chorus and a lot of replay value, in what world wouldn't it had a chance to become successful? And the whole first minute is sung only by bruno anyway :rip:

Okay lol then who else do you think could have helped it still pull 10 million streams after 4 months. Taylor Swift? Kylie Minogue? Tinashe? :rip:

No I think Gaga was the perfect person for this and that's why it worked so well. She can handle the soft rock aspects of the song that say, someone like Adele wouldn't be so convincing at and she brought her own soccer mom type following for a joint slay.

It would've still worked with Ariana, Bey, Adele or Miley tbh.

Depends on the vocalist. Adele Ariana, Beyonce ? Yes

Someone like Katy, or Kesha? No

Honestly yes, Bruno and his label invested so much for his comeback. APT, DWAS are all part of this plan and are pushed to our throats and ears with all medias. It's not a secret.

Well APT came out months after DWAS and DWAS is still above APT, so maybe it's not just Bruno :rip:  Also Interscope - Gaga's label released DWAS lmaoo

People are missing that Gaga also wrote the song. I don't know if she broke down which parts were done before she got involved but that chorus sounds very big and Gaga-esque to me. If she wasn't involved, it would literally be a different song.

As a liddo, this is actually a difficult question to answer. The brilliance of Gaga's parts in the song lie in how understated they are, how she has modulated her vocal performance to support and meld with Bruno's rather than carving out her own space in the duet.

To me it barely even sounds like a Gaga song. The focus is 80% on Bruno's vocals, and Gaga's parts are sung and mixed to keep that focus rather than distract from it. I think we can all imagine a version of the song where Gaga was using her full, nasal, over-articulated "ballad" voice to steal the show and it probably would have ended up a disaster :rip: Instead, if you look at what we actually got you can hear that Gaga's belts have been incorporated into the second chorus but at like 20% volume to add subtle texture and flair, widening Bruno's vocal but not adding anything that would grate or risk becoming unpleasant.

So how essential can you say an artist is to a song which bears so little of her signature on its blueprint? From one perspective, you could argue that she's easily replaceable since her touches were minor and directed at refining what was already there or finding subtle ways to enhance it. But from another perspective, I'd argue that it takes a skilled musician to understand what a song really needs to bring out the best version of itself, and in this case Gaga was dead on the bullseye — whereas another artist could easily have misjudged it.

It's beyond obvious you have an agenda when you're spewing literal lies like this. How did Bruno's label "invest so much" in Die With a Smile when it wasn't even released by them? :deadbanana: APT. I'll give you since at least it was released partially under Atlantic, but that's also because Rosé is partially under Atlantic, not necessarily because of Bruno himself.

Was Bruno an important part of why both songs smashed? Obviously. But to say it's all due to him is — dare I say it — bordering on sexist, and to say it's all due to his label is at best trolling or at worst plain unintelligence. :skull:

Yes. But I still wouldn't enjoy it because it's a soccer mom song and it's just not for me. I think Gaga probably did the best job anybody could have, but it seems like Bruno is the safest best in this climate for a hit, he's very Adam Levine/Maroon 5 after The Voice and that's just the world we live in these days. I much prefer when innovative and unique music dominates the charts as opposed to pandering to middle America. The song is good but it's just not it for me and it's not even the best song by either Bruno or Gaga, it's just safe and inoffensive.

would've been way WAAYYY bigger if it was with Rihanna

the only way it would flop is if it was with H.E.R. instead, but it would be a sleeper hit like Best Part :sistrens:

We cannot tell. I mean, Gaga wrote parts of the song and brought Andrew to produce it. So, the lyrics, sound, production, etc… would be somewhat different if it sang and wrote by a different artist.

But I could still see DWAS being a hit if Adele sang and wrote parts of the song.

WFL and Umbrella are def bigger than DWAS or at least it felt bigger

also Rih x Bruno collab in this day and age with both of their comeback hype (both hasn't released an album since 2016) + the song being as great as it is, yes it could be bigger or at least feel bigger
