Actor Olivia Hussey, best known for her role in Italian director Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 version of William Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet," died on Friday, Dec. 27. She was 73.

 

Her death was confirmed to the Chronicle by filmmaker and friend Marc Huestis. The cause is believed to be cancer.

 

"I adored her," he said. "She had so much love, and was the most beautiful Juliet ever. Onscreen and in real life, she exuded love and life."
