Cesar Posted Friday at 10:51 PM Posted Friday at 10:51 PM Quote President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect until his administration can pursue a "political resolution" to the issue. The request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by Jan. 19 while the government emphasized its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. Trump on Tiktok: Quote "President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act's deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case," said Trump's amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case and was written by D. John Sauer, Trump's choice for solicitor general. Quote Trump has also reversed his position on the popular app, having tried to ban it during his first term in office over national security concerns. He joined the app during his 2024 presidential campaign and his team used it to connect with younger voters, especially male voters, by pushing content that was often macho and aimed at going viral. He said earlier this year that he still believed there were national security risks with TikTok, but that he opposed banning it. This month, Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. https://apnews.com/article/tiktok-ban-supreme-court-trump-b96013a8447e9bdb5508ebe436aadf9a

LustSpell Posted Friday at 11:09 PM Posted Friday at 11:09 PM (edited) Wow, going back on a ban on a fundamental device in how he won. More misinformation incoming. Who's surprised! Edited Friday at 11:09 PM by LustSpell 1

Rep2000 Posted Friday at 11:35 PM Posted Friday at 11:35 PM And just like that, certain tiktok defenders just become MAGA Trumpsters. 2
Sheep Posted Friday at 11:56 PM Posted Friday at 11:56 PM (edited) Sorry but that app actually does need a ban or Bytedance needs to build a GIGANTIC wall between their US and Chinese arms. All major social media and internet advertising is a security risk but the fact that the rest of them are domestic companies makes it less threatening. Every foreign government should also be taking steps to reign in use of services from Meta and Google as well, its insane how complacent politicians have become with foreign governments tracking their own citizens' every single move and thought. This was one of the very very few stances Trump took that I agreed with. Edited Friday at 11:59 PM by Sheep 3 1
