Puttanesca Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago A cultural reset that nobody has been able to recreate since. 3
Iaintsorry Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago This cover is very of its time, I always thought it was an odd choice as the picture for her debut album since it covers her face. I remember buying this album when it came out but not even knowing what her face actually looked like for like the first 6 months I stanned her lol 3
RandomHooker Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Wait that's the Discostick I always thought that was her hand (woth white gloves) holding the glasses. 2

The artwork did not need to be airbrushed to hell and put through so many filters lol.

AlbumOfTheYear Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago i miss Nosega. Her original nose was so cute 2
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Amazing(!!!) cover picture, her skin looks amazing too wtf 32 minutes ago, AlbumOfTheYear said: i miss Nosega. Her original nose was so cute I'm so serious when I say her old face was so good. I know people kept calling her ugly, but she wasn't at all. Her face was beautiful AND had character, I feel like as she streamlined her face, her personality went the same way. She's obviously still looks good, but yeah 2
xokuba Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago This isn't new, this has been floating around for some years now. Pretty iconic if you ask me.
Onyxmage Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Without the cropping it looks a mess. Congrats to the photo editor.

I know people kept calling her ugly, but she wasn't at all. Her face was beautiful AND had character, I feel like as she streamlined her face, her personality went the same way. She's obviously still looks good, but yeah ALL OF THIS seriously, think about it for a sec. popstars are beautiful, they lean into intrigue and always show that beauty is not just ONE THING. whether or not they're conventional beauties is something a bit more complex, but if you're in that type of successful atmosphere, everything is scrutinized about you so constantly. Gaga was beautiful her whole life. I think back to those photos of her her former coworker took in her apartment when she was 19… Spoiler like that's a really good looking lady but she has a different kind of beauty from other musicians who have that same kind of unconventional fashion sense she ended up having. take Björk for example, another unconventional beauty. Björk has this kind of really unique, pixie-like face that feels kind of one in a million. I've never in my life seen someone in person who looks like Björk. I've seen a few people who do look like younger Gaga^, being that I'm from the east coast and she naturally has a very Italian look. I grew up surrounded by a lot of Jewish, Greek, Eurasian, and Italian people, many of whom looked like a lot like me, with prominent noses and dark hair. if this^ Gaga were a student with me at my high school, I could easily see her being one of the popular kids in my grade because 1. she's super pretty, 2. she is practically overflowing with charisma, and 3. she has always seemed like a friendly person. the popular girls at my school were lowkey always pretty nice, to me at least. it was the wannabe popular people who were mean and lowkey homophobic, and tended to make nasty ass expressions all the time toward my friends and I. back to my point though, like Björk, Gaga started her musical career wearing incredible and often quite avant-garde fashion. her face wasn't the focus, it was all about the aesthetic as a whole. using the body as a means for wearing clothing items displaying a message or expressing a feeling, often abstract and always getting people talking! beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder which brings me to my main point: everyone I've ever thought of as attractive has had at least one thing on their face that instantly draws my attention. my ex boyfriend who was my longest relationship, it was his beard and his brooding hazel eyes. my most recent ex boyfriend, it was his bright smile and deepset blue eyes. one of my ex girlfriends, it was her cute overbite and freckles. another of my ex girlfriends, their intense greenish grayish eyes and I loved their curly hair too! when I look at those photos of Gaga before she got a good amount of work done, I see classic Italian eyes that are intense and lips that have a gorgeous shape to them. if fledgling pop superstar Lady Gaga wanted to depend on her looks back in those days, I think she easily could've. her natural dark brown hair is gorgeous and made her look like a really pretty Jersey Italian girl. BUT! instead, she chose to trust her instincts, lean into her internal sense of subversive fashion, and didn't direct focus on what would flatter her face the best. she focused on changing the industry and having somewhat of an extraterrestrial presence to her. I think she's always been beautiful, but the fact that "being beautiful" was never her focus as a popstar was a change of pace from someone like Katy or Britney (who are both beautiful too! my intention is not to make a competition or anything just pointing out what different artists reverted to focusing on) relying more on conventionality to have iconic beauty moments in their way. whoever called Gaga ugly back then were rude and were being assholes. she opted for weird hair colors that beauty experts would probably advise her against considering her tan skin tone. she chose outfits that made her body look smaller, or highly unusual, which conventional experts would advise against because usually shorter people want to look taller! but these things helped her to stand out and to remain authentic in her way sorry for the long rant but yeah, she's always happened to be good looking, but it's rarely her focus. like Wendy Williams said, she wanted to bring people into HER world. her focus has always been to be intriguing and challenge rigid standards and fixtures of what a popstar can be 2 1

BlahBlahBlah Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I thought the art direction of this era was always so cool. I actually like that washed out effect that they added in post, it's what all the music videos of that time looked like. Also, the red text version of this album cover is SO superior yet they use the icy blue text version for everything nowadays 3
