Terrorist attack in Germany, 2 dead, 60+ injured

A driver rammed a car into a large crowd of revellers at a Christmas market in central Germany on Friday evening, killing at least two people and injuring more than 60 before he was arrested, authorities said. One of the dead was a young child, said Reiner Haseloff, premier of the state of Saxony-Anhalt

The source identified the suspect as Taleb Abdul Jawad. Germany's Der Spiegel identified the attacker as Taleb A., a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy who sympathised with Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party.

A Saudi source told Reuters the kingdom had warned German authorities about the attacker, who the source said had posted extremist views on his personal X account.

Xmas markets are only built before Xmas so obviously that was the point.

Couldn't have imagined the video to be so shocking. I feel so bad for the victims and the rest of the people that was there, it's really sad.

Awful. This type of terror attack has happened too many times in Europe, authorities need to do more to protect crowds from cars

leaving at least 11 dead

Where did you read that? Serious question because all major news outlets are saying it's two people dead, including an infant. Bild said 11 people earlier but seemed to have retracted that.

He is arrested. They are saying it's a man from Saudi Arabia, apparently a doctor.

I'm so scared of the next elections. Hope this dude rots though. Terrorists need to suffer for the rest of their lives.

That's why I don't go to such kind of open gatherings. It's just not safe anymore.

Since the Berlin terrorist attacks there's usually always some kind of protection against cars around all major events, including christmas markets. I watched Tagesschau earlier and they were still unsure why this happened.

RIP to all those poor innocent people!
Something needs to change. People should be able to enjoy Christmas markets without fear of being murdered.

This is tragic.

I read that the Saudi man has been living in Germany since 2006 and working in a hospital as a doctor, and never had any problems with the law or pose any threats to security or seen as an extremist. I wonder wtf happened.

A friend of mine left the market 20min before the attack happened to go to another one nearby. I'm still in shock.
