Alicia Keys to Receive Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at Recording Academy Honors Presented by Black Music Collective

Quote

Alicia Keys is set to receive the 2025 Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the fourth annual Recording Academy Honors Presented by the Black Music Collective, to be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Thursday, Jan. 30. The award was established in 2023 to recognize artists whose influence extends far beyond music. It also takes into account entrepreneurial achievements, philanthropic efforts and global impact.

Dre received the inaugural award on the Grammy telecast in 2023. Jay-Z received on the telecast earlier this year

I find it kinda disrespectful to make Alicia the first female recipient of this honorary award, but not allow her the same platform and big celebratory moment in the actual main ceremony when the previous recipients both got this opportunity. :gaycat6:

Mess, why did Billboard ignore her then in the article. :rip:

And why do only the male recipients get a moment in the main show while the female recipients get it at a small, non-televised industry event… :gaycat7:

Upon further research, it appears like Mariah got a different award @Hector, which explains why her trophy is different.

She and Lenny Kravitz got the "Recording Academy® Global Impact Award", while Jay Z got the "Dr. Dre Global Impact Award", and the Recording Academy explicitly calls hime the "second-ever recipient" (the first being Dre himself). So that's why only those two are mentioned in the Billboard article. Alicia is getting the same award as Jay and Dre, and not Mariah. And those two got big televised moments, whereas Alicia won't.

Justice for Alicia even though she totally disappeared from the industry. What happened, she was so talented and used to be everywhere. Now that I think about it, she was kinda serving black Adele back in the day.

The fact that they're both called Global Impact make it too easy an honest mistake to make. :toofunny2:

She definitely didn't disappear. She recently finished a world tour and performed at halftime earlier this year. She just be flopping her solo albums. She still spawned more classics in a shorter span of time than most in the 00s though.

Her style of music is very 00s sounding. She didn't evolve.

Grammys is so inherently racist. An institution that should rot, come on Charli springbreakers.

That's really lame but seems to be becoming the industry norm.

The Golden Globes are moving the Cecil B DeMille Honorary Award off of the televised program to some lame luncheon for the first time this year too.

Imagine how dumb you have to be NOT to air a Viola Davis speech on your program.

(Ted Danson's honorary award will also be presented at that separate event).

They shouldn't pick and choose.

Hopefully Alicia has a big comeback soon

I understand their decision. Jay Z's speech was so entitled, self serving and insufferable that they don't want the risk of this happening again. No one wants to watch the bullshit he pulled this year.

This is also a "made-up" award that is taking the spot away from competitive categories.
