The instrumentals are very lovely and comforting. But if the instrumental didn't hit you with sadness and melancholy, the rest of the track will.

"Punish" affected me emotionally on a level that I can't f*cking explain. I was also struck by the atmospheric background sound, reminiscent of the singing of underwater sirens. It gives a creepy mood, but thanks to this, the track only gets better.

This song is a masterpiece, so much so that it builds confidence in me that this album is going to be a masterpiece. It shows so early on that they landed on a whole new sound palette that's so innovative, beautiful, and playful, and incorporates techno-house in an incredible way.

 

I love her immaculate vocals, I love how simple and concise the hook is, the off-key Eartheater backing vocals, the glitch elements, the heartbeat kick, the production flourishes, the vocal warps, and the intro of the synth around the 3-minute mark. Yeah, nobody does it like her!
