He's an admired virtuoso/multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who was either quietly or not the brain behind some of the most beloved hits of the 80s and 90s. His genius was admired by other geniuses, Miles Davis and several other music geniuses recognized that there was nothing he couldn't do, he was a product of every great in American music history and was still extremely unique. Even his 'contemporaries' were influenced by his work and it's audible, not just reliant on them saying what sounds good. His live performances matched and even exceeded his reputation.
