Tbh it falls under the same category as bullfighting in Spain and other spanish-speaking countries. Both are barbaric and unnecessary. Culture and tradition being used as shields is even more preposterous though. If an aspect of a culture repulses you then why tf should you show any respect for it?

My point is, what they're doing is stupid, harmful and completely unnecessary, even if its cultural, it's religious and stupid

Every year my family sacrifices about 7-10 chickens for our ancestors for good health and stuff, we do some rituals, and then we have a feast. Do I believe in those beliefs? No, but they give my parents some sort of peace that my grandparents are eating good, getting money, and living well in the afterlife. In my culture, ceremonies always involve animal sacrifices, however, the animals are always consumed after. I view it as the same as regular meat eating with a few extra steps before consuming.
