Little Dark Age Posted May 21, 2017 Author Posted May 21, 2017 Quick Recap Spoiler Singles Spoon's "Can I Sit Next to You" was No. 1 for a fourth week on April 13. Blossoms' "Texia" replaced Spoon at No. 1 on April 20, becoming the first album track to ever reach the top of the chart (non-promo/single). That reign was short-lived as Lady Gaga's "The Cure" debuted at No. 1 on April 27, the 10th track to do so and became Lady Gaga's fifth No. 1. "Texia" returned to the top slot on May 11, ending the two week No. 1 run of "The Cure" and garnering a second week at No. 1 itself in the process. Last week Spoon's "Can I Sit Next to You" reclaimed No. 1 after a four week break, notching a fifth week at the top and becoming the longest running No. 1 of 2017 to date. Albums Spoon's Hot Thoughts regained the top slot from Blossoms' debut self titled set after one week, putting up 63 spins for the week of April 13 (scoring a third week at No. 1 overall). Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. went in at No. 1 with 273 points on April 20, becoming the Compton rapper's second No. 1 and scoring the second biggest opening frame of 2017 (behind Spoon's Hot Thoughts; 368). Spoon returned to No. 1 with Hot Thoughts on April 27, marking a fourth week at No. 1 (48 plays). Pat Benatar's Tropico somehow landed a No. 1 debut on May 4, despite posting the lowest weekly frame since February (18 spins; down 63% from the previous week's No. 1). Father John Misty's Pure Comedy reached No. 1 on May 11 with 221 plays. It marked the second best non debut week frame for an album in 2017 and led an entirely male top 10 which also boasted the likes of Miguel's Wildheart and Kendrick Lamar's former No. 1 DAMN. (both over 100 plays, the former of which re-peaked at No. 2 and posted the best frame for a non No. 1 in 2017) as well as strong debuts from Pond and The Black Angels. Also noteworthy, the spin count of 221 was up 1128% from the previous week's 18 for the No. 1 album, the biggest week to week percentage gain of the year and second biggest overall; on October 3, Banks' The Altar entered with 292, up nearly 3000% from The Weeknd's Echoes of Silence, which had been No. 1 with 10 spins the week before. It was the most competitive week in over year; 53 weeks before, Beyonce's Lemonade debuted at No. 1 with 450 spins, leapfrogging over Rihanna's ANTI and Drake's Views (both over 200). Despite debuting at No. 5 in the pervious week with 64 spins, Pond's The Weather ultimately had the last laugh as it moved 5-1 on May 18 with just 10 spins. New chart up soon
Remmy Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Quote That reign was short-lived as Lady Gaga's "The Cure" debuted at No. 1 on April 27, the 10th track to do so and became Lady Gaga's fifth No. 1. [...] the two week No. 1 run of "The Cure" Queen did that
Little Dark Age Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 CDSCHART's HOT 75: MAY 25, 2017 Back with a new chart! Here's some quick notes: Spoiler KEY Spoiler [00] - GAIN IN PERFORMANCE [00] - GAINS IN PERFORMANCE & POSITION [00] - GAIN IN POSITION [00] - EQUAL OR DECREASING IN PERFORMANCE/POSITION Spoon's "Can I Sit Next to You" tops the singles chart for a sixth non-consecutive week, extending its record as the longest running No. 1 of the year. Further it's the longest running No. 1 in over a year when Tame Impala's "The Less I Know the Better" reigned for 9 weeks across spring 2016. Lower in the top 10, Spoon also charts "Hot Thoughts" (9-9) in the region for a 13th week. Impressively, the two tracks have been present in the top 10 simultaneously for 10 straight weeks. After last week's impressive jump -- which marked the first time this track was not at a position ending in '1' in its run -- Kasabian's "You're In Love with a Psycho" holds even at No. 2. The unexpected hit from the English rock group doesn't show signs of slowing either, up in total points. Kendrick Lamar's "Humble" jumps one position (4-3) to tie Kendrick's best ever rank on my singles chart: he's previously reached No. 3 with both "Untitled 08 | Blue Faces" and "The Greatest". Blossoms' former two week front runner "Texia" swaps with "Humble" (down 3-4). With increased competition it's unlikely to sneak another week at No. 1. With that being said, it's not all bad news for Blossoms this week: "Honey Sweet" is up 75-66, earning a new peak in week two. NAO returns to her best ever rank with "We Don't Give A", which rebounds 6-5. Originally a quick mover, its staying power is now kind of questionable. This is quite surprising given NAO's success on the LP chart; her debut album For All We Know notched up four weeks at No. 1. Lorde's "Green Light" rebounds 8-6 despite dropping in points and stringing together a twelfth week in the top 10. Zedd & Alessia Cara's "Stay" drops out of the top 5 (5-7) after spending eight weeks locked in the region, seven of which were spent consecutively at its peak of No. 3. Alessia, who has never gone higher than No. 3, has now spent 13 combined weeks at her 'peak': one with "Wild Things", two with "Here", three with "Scars to Your Beautiful" and the aforementioned seven with "Stay". Portugal. The Man's "Feel It Still", the group's first ever top 10, pushes 10-8 and claiming a new peak in the process. As previously mentioned, Spoon's "Hot Thoughts" remains at No. 9. Rounding out the top 10, Lady Gaga's former No. 1 debut "The Cure" plunges 7-10. This is lowest rank for the track thus far and its performance to date is already off quite a bit from comparable releases: "Perfect Illusion" spent its first five weeks in the top 3, three of which were spent at No. 1, "Do What U Want" spent its first five weeks in the top 2 and "Applause" was No. 1 in all of its first five weeks. Kendrick Lamar's "DNA" bounds 45-28, up seventeen spots to a new peak as the chart's greatest gainer. Vince Staples' "Big Fish", the follow up to the top 5 hit "Bagbak" (also recommended btw), is the chart's top debut at No. 49. Meanwhile Francis and the Lights scores the next highest entry at No. 59 with the Chance the Rapper remix of "May I Have This Dance". Shakira and Katy Perry also debut. Little Dark Age Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) NOTES ***Former 11 week No. 1 single "The Hills" re-enters the chart and is now the top performing track in the chart's history*** Spoiler Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” locks down the top slot for a fifth consecutive week. That’s the longest consecutive streak at No. 1 this year, beating the four week reign of The Weeknd’s “I Feel It Coming” and Spoon’s first stint at the top with “Can I Sit Next to You”. In terms of overall weeks at No. 1, “Rebone” is just one week from trying “Can I Sit Next to You”, which remains as 2017’s longest runner (six weeks). “Redbone” also tops the R&B/Hip-Hop genre chart for a fifth week. After an entire month with a stagnant top 2, Lorde’s “Sober” re-energizes the top 10 as it jumps 7-2. A highlight from the critically acclaimed Melodrama, “Sober” quickly became the album’s third top 40 during release week — which saw Lorde become the first artist to chart an entire album at once. This week it follows “Green Light” as the album’s second top 5 entry and could very well be the album’s second No. 1. Over on the Pop genre chart, “Sober” dethrones Lady Gaga’s “The Cure” after a nine week run. DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts”, his collaboration with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, meanwhile jumps 5-3. Although it hasn’t yet topped the chart, odds are in Khaled’s favor; guest Rihanna has topped the list with 9 of her 20 prior top 5 entries. Kendrick Lamar’s former single week runner “Humble” slides 2-4 after a month of stability. Will “Humble”, which looks to close as K. Dot’s biggest track yet, be joined in the top 10 by “DNA”? The promotional single from DAMN. climbs 18-16 on this week’s issue. Lady Gaga’s former two week No. 1 “The Cure” is off 3-5. Consequently it loses its title as the highest charting track by a female vocalist and departs from the Pop genre chart’s penthouse one week short of claiming the longest run on said chart this year. Portugal. The Man’s “Noise Pollution” echoes this drop, as it also slides down two rungs (4-6). Despite the drop, it remains at No. 1 for a third week on the Alternative genre chart. Tyler, the Creator’s “911 / Mr. Lonely”, which sports guest vocals from the likes of Anna of the North, Frank Ocean and ScHoolboy Q, is the first of two tracks new to the chart’s top 10. Last week’s top debut, the double single pushes 19-7 in its second and first full week of charting. It’s the first top 10 for everyone involved but Frank Ocean, who took “Slide” to No. 10 just last month. Blossom’s record breaking former chart topper “Texia” continues its impressive run, holding 8-8. It has now spent 14 weeks among the chart’s top 10. Kesha’s recently unveiled comeback track “Praying” claims the chart’s hot shot debut honors as it blasts in at No. 9. It immediately becomes the American singer’s fifth top 10 single (and her third to debut in the region), which places her in a seven way tie for the 16th most top 10 entries. “Praying” marks Kesha’s second highest entry behind the No. 6 bow of “Die Young”. Notably, however, “Praying” was able to land in the top 10 based on just a day and a half of plays while “Die Young” had a four day window in its first week. Given its limited amount of time to accumulate chart points, it’s likely that “Praying” would have outstripped “Die Young” had it been allocated the same four day window. Among all artists, this is the highest chart debut since The Killers’ “The Man” (down 6-10 this week) entered at No. 4 after an abbreviated four day week three frames ago; this is the highest ranking debut for a Thursday release since Lorde’s “Green Light” entered at No. 1 just over four months ago. As noted above, The Weeknd's former 11 week front runner "The Hills" re-enters the chart at No. 63. Adding 3.49 points to its cumulative total, it overtakes Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" as the top performing track in the chart's history (December 2009 - February 2010; January 2012 - present). "Habits" had been the top performer since the July 30, 2015 issue when it overtook OneRepublic's "Counting Stars". It joins "Where Have You Been" (chart leader until December 2013), "Figure 8" (chart leader until June 2014) and "Counting Stars" (chart leader until July 30, 2015) on the list of fallen all time leaders. Other former summer season No. 1 singles "Into You" (re, No. 67) and "The Less I Know the Better" (re, No. 69) are also back as the mid July lull kicks into full gear. THIS WEEK IN No. 1s 5 YEARS - "Lights" - Ellie Goulding (third week) 4 YEARS - "Red Cup" - Katy Tiz (second week) 3 YEARS - "Maps" - Maroon 5 (first week) 2 YEARS - "The Hills" - The Weeknd (third week) 1 YEAR - "Into You" (second week) Artist 50 Lorde notches a second week atop the Artist 50 chart, holding 1-1. Despite easing 28.85% to 254 points, Lorde is still the only artist to rank up more than 100 plays this week. She becomes the eighteenth artist to claim more than a single week at No. 1 on this chart. The Kiwi singer posts a 24th week among the top 50, posting the 32nd longest stay in the chart's 75 week history. DJ Khaled is up 12 spots to No. 2, a new peak. His sum of 60 points is mostly entirely driven by "Wild Thoughts". This is his first week in the chart's top 10 and seventh week being listed. Childish Gambino holds steady at his peak of No. 3 for a third week. At the mid week stage, Gambino is set for a fourth week in this slot. Blossoms is up 13-4, re-entering the top 10 for the first time in two months. This is the group's seventh week in the top 10 overall and 15th week being listed. They have peaked as high as No. 2. Kesha re-enters the chart entirely at No. 5, notching her first appearance on the chart in exactly half a year. She had previously gone as high as No. 19 in the final frame of 2016. Rounding out the top 10, Kendrick Lamar holds at No. 6 while gaining 27.78% (he's previously peaked at No. 1 for 4 weeks), Vince Staples is down 86% and 5 slots to No. 7, French Montana re-peaks at No. 8 while remaining even in points, Nelly Furtado re-enters straight in at No. 9 and Lady Gaga plunges 5-10 with a 58% drop (although she does register a 52nd week in the top 20). Little Dark Age Posted July 15, 2017 Author Posted July 15, 2017 So there's a lot going on for this week's chart. Charlie's Hot 75 is finally entering its 'streaming' era (aka easier to get certifications). After two years of using a sh*t formula that was ultimately 'unfair' to tracks ranked No. 51-75, the chart and its entire back-archive is getting a revamp. From now on tracks ranked: No. 01 to No. 25 will receive (51-rank) + (WoC/100) points. No. 26 to No. 75 will receive (38-(rank/2)) + (WoC/100) points. This change, being implemented all the way back to the start of the chart, causes the entire All Time top 5 to change and the amount of points for the No. 1 is approximately 200 points higher (Abel is still charting): 01. Figure 8 - Ellie Goulding (up 4 from No. 5) 02. Habits (Stay High) - Tove Lo (even at No. 2) 03. Rather Be - Clean Bandit Feat. Jess Glynne (up 3 from No. 6) 04. The Hills - The Weeknd (down 3 from No. 1) 05. Hello - Adele (down 2 from No. 3) Up next, the certifications have changed from: SILVER - 250 points (no change)* GOLD - 500 points (no change) PLATINUM - 1000 points (no change) 2X PLATINUM - 1100 points (down 150 points) 3X PLATINUM - 1200 points (down 100 points) 4X PLATINUM - 1300 points (down 50 points) 5X PLATINUM - 1400 points (up 25 points) 6X PLATINUM - 1450 points (up 50 points) 7X PLATINUM - 1500 points (up 75 points) 8X PLATINUM - 1550 points (up 100 points) 9X PLATINUM - 1600 points (up 125 points) DIAMOND - 1650 points (up 150 points) Each additional platinum is 100 points Half of the certifications have dropped or remained stable, the other half have increased to fairly reflect these changes. *Silver is not counted in artist or album sums. ALTERED TOP CERTIFICATIONS - Although many tracks jump in certifications due to the points flux and lowered requirements, some, notably at the top of the heap, slide down on the scale. - "Figure 8" jumps to 11x Platinum (never previously awarded) and "Habits (Stay High)" remains Diamond. The other six previously Diamond songs lose their status and swap for 9x Platinum (two songs) or 8x Platinum (four songs). - "Black Magic", "You Don't Know Love" and "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" are just a few examples of songs that benefit from these changes; all were stuck between 990-999.99 (Gold) points and are now Platinum. "Timber", previously the 4th highest non Platinum track, remains Gold as it only jumps 10 points to 998. 11X PLATINUM Figure 8 - Ellie Goulding DIAMOND Habits (Stay High) - Tove Lo 9X PLATINUM Rather Be - Clean Bandit Feat. Little Dark Age Posted July 22, 2017 Author Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) NOTES Spoiler In addition to the changing of the chart’s formula, eight tracks enter this week’s Hot 75, sending 45 songs crashing down the chart. Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” continues as the chart topper, extending its reign to a sixth consecutive week, despite facing its strongest competition yet. As if being the longest consecutive runner of 2017 wasn’t enough, “Redbone” ties Spoon’s “Can I Sit Next to You” for the longest overall stint at No. 1 this year. It also exits a multi way tie for the 10th longest running No. 1, moving into a three way tie for the 7th longest running No. 1 in the chart’s history. Here’s a quick look at its standing among other top runners: Longest Running No. 1 Singles 11, Applause - Lady Gaga (2013; August 22 - October 24, November 21) 11, The Hills - The Weeknd (2015; June 18, July 2 - August 27, October 22) 9, The Less I Know the Better - Tame Impala (2016; March 17 - May 12) 8, Don’t You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin (2012-2013; December 6 - January 24) 7, Diamonds - Rihanna (2012; October 11 - November 22) 7, Something In the Way You Move - Ellie Goulding (2015-2016; October 29, December 17 - January 21) 6, Hello - Adele (2015; November 5 - December 10) 6, Redbone - Childish Gambino (2017; June 15 - present) 6, Can I Sit Next to You - Spoon (2017; March 23 - April 13, May 18 - 25) “Redbone” also tops the R&B/Hip-Hop genre chart for a sixth week. After unexpectedly debuting in the top 10 of last week’s chart, Kesha’s “Praying” blasts 9-2 to become the chart’s new runner up. That ties “Timber” as Kesha’s highest peaking hit to date while simultaneously becoming her third non-consecutive top 3 single. It’s also her fastest track to reach the top 3, outstripping the four weeks “Die Young” needed to reach No. 3 (also its peak). Due to the unique release roll out of parent album Rainbow, Kesha could easily run away with several more instant top 10s in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, this week’s countdown offering (“Woman”) missed the mark and the chart. “Praying” also powers 4-1 on the Pop genre chart, ending the single week reign of Lorde’s “Sober”. DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts”, his effort with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, meanwhile holds 3-3. It’s the highest charting collaborative release for the second week, ranking comfortably above its nearest competitor. It ranks at No. 2 on the Pop genre chart for a third week in a row; notably, the No. 1 above it has changed each week. Lorde’s “Sober” cools 2-4, following last week’s healthy five spot increase. It also decreases 1-3 on the Pop genre chart. Although its clearly not out of the competition just yet, “Sober” is currently Lorde’s only top 5 entry on the main chart to miss the pole position. Kendrick Lamar’s former single week runner “Humble” slides 4-5, racking up a fifteenth consecutive week in the top 10. DAMN. promotional single “DNA” climbs 16-15 as it looks to become Kendrick’s 8th top 10 single; should it reach the region, Kendrick would become just the second artist to land two or more top 10 singles from three consecutive albums. Currently, Rihanna is the only artist to achieve this: 2011’s Talk That Talk collected 4, 2012’s Unapologetic landed 5 and 2016’s ANTI picked up 4 as well. Speaking of Rihanna, the official follow up to “Humble” (“Loyalty”) featuring the songstress is also charting (down 58-67 amidst a point increase). Ariel Pink’s polarizing yet incredible genre bender “Time to Live” scores this week’s top debut, blasting in at No. 6 with just three days of availability. The massive entry for “Time to Live” comes on the heels of the leak of parent album Dedicated to Bobby Jameson over two months ahead of schedule. It also debuts at No. 1 on the Alternative Songs chart. Fellow single “Another Weekend” enters straight in at No. 44 on the main chart. French Montana and Swae Lee’s “Unforgettable” bounces 13-7, hitting a new peak nearly four months into its run. It passes the Silver certification level this week and now marks the highest peaking entry for all involved parties; French Montana has never charted before and Swae Lee passes the No. 8 peak of “Black Beatles” (credited to Rae Sremmurd, his main musical project) earlier this year. Lady Gaga’s former two week No. 1 “The Cure” is off 5-8. Meanwhile Portugal. The Man’s “Noise Pollution” echoes this drop, as it also slides down three rungs (6-9). With the drop, “Noise Pollution” cedes the summit of the Alternative Songs chart after three weeks. In an already rare occurrence, ‘Pollution’ (a lead single) followed “Feel It Still” (a second single) into the top 10. Now, in an even rarer occurrence, ‘Still’ is back to climbing (25-19) while ‘Pollution’ continues to decline. Blossom’s record breaking former chart topper “Texia” continues its impressive run, dropping just two slots to round out the top 10 (8-10). It has now spent 15 weeks among the chart’s upper region. Just below, Jay-Z’s “Kill Jay Z” re-enters at a new peak of No. 20. It becomes just the fifth song to re-enter the chart within the top 20 and marks the highest re-entry in three and a half years, since Ayah Marar’s “Mind Controller” re-entered at No. 6 in February 2014. THIS WEEK IN No. 1s 5 YEARS - "Lights" - Ellie Goulding (fourth and final week) 4 YEARS - "Red Cup" - Katy Tiz (third week) 3 YEARS - "Maps" - Maroon 5 (second week) 2 YEARS - "The Hills" - The Weeknd (fourth week) 1 YEAR - "Into You" (third week) ALBUMS Ariel Pink’s Dedicated to Bobby Jameson debuts at No. 1 with 147 plays on the heels of an incredibly premature leak. Although its way too early to call how Dedicated will hold, this unique case will probably keep it sticking around for a while. Vince Staples’ Big Fish Theory holds 2-2 with 137 plays. It previously debuted at No. 1, spending one week there. Lorde’s Melodrama slides down 1-3 with 104 plays, off 59%. SZA’s CTRL rebounds to No. 4 with 38 plays, up 1800% in week to week spins. Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, My Love!” rounds out the top 5 with 30 plays, shedding just 9% in overall points. ARTIST 50 Ariel Pink debuts at No. 1 will all of his plays stemming from the debut of his new album Dedicated to Bobby Jameson. That’s the fifth biggest artist debut in the year and half history of the chart, only behind the entries of Chance the Rapper, Blood Orange, Radiohead and Foster the People. Vince Staples pushes back 7-2, tying his highest mark to date on the chart. Lorde is down two slots to No. 3 after two consecutive weeks at No. 1. She notches a 25th week on the chart, entering the top 30 among longest stays in the chart’s history. Kesha is up one slot to No. 4, reaching a new peak a week after re-entering the chart entirely at a then new peak of No. 5. SZA re-enters at No. 5, netting a fourth week in the top 50 and a third in the top 10. She has previously topped this chart for one week. Amid the climbs, Childish Gambino slides 3-6 after spending a third week at his peak to date. He has now spent 10 weeks on the chart, six of which were spent among the top 10. Lady Gaga rebounds 10-7, netting a 38th week in the chart’s top 10. She has been listed for 61 weeks overall, the third longest stay in the chart’s 76 week history. Although she has been narrowing the gap between herself and the top 2 longest charting artists, both are present on this week’s chart; The Weeknd re-enters at No. 15, notching a 64th week on while Rihanna is off 14 slots to No. 27 in her 65th week. Rounding out the top 10, CharlI XCX re-enters at a new high of No. 8, while DREAMCAR breaks into the top 10 for the first time with a re-entry at No. 9. Portugal. The Man rebounds 18-10, blocking Canadian singer Lights who debuts at No. 11.
