Little Dark Age Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) cdschart's Hot 75: February 23 Very late this week but anyway. Chart Notes Spoiler The Weeknd's "I Feel It Coming" holds off another wave of rising tracks, marking a third week at the top slot. Abel's cumulative weeks at No. 1 consequently rises to 25, further extending his record for most weeks at No. 1 among males. Including all acts, he ranks only behind Rihanna in both total No.1s (9) and weeks at No. 1 (30). Katy Perry's "Chained to the Rhythm" pushes 7-2 in its first full week of charting. That's as far as "Rise" got in mid summer 2016, although that track took 3 weeks to climb that high (its eventual peak). It also surpasses the peaks of Katy's last two lead singles: "Roar" took 8 weeks to climb to No. 3, while "Part of Me" debuted and peaked at No. 8 back in 2012 (her other leads pre-date the chart). With increasing competition, however, it's tough to tell if 'Chained' is headed towards the top slot. Katy has scored two No. 1s to date, both of which are more laid back tracks in comparison (Unconditionally and Wide Awake). Should the track stop at No. 2, it will join "The One That Got Away", "Dark Horse", "Rise" and "Walking On Air" as her tracks to barely miss the pinnacle. Fun fact: Lorde's forthcoming single might just be the track that blocks Katy from No. 1; Lorde's "Team" previously blocked "Dark Horse" for three weeks nearly 3 years ago. Lady Gaga's "Million Reasons" holds at No. 3 despite a dip in chart points. With that being said, a hold this strong is fairly impressive. Adele's "Water Under the Bridge" slides down 2-4, falling from the lack of momentum; had she preformed this at the Grammys she might've achieved her second No. 1. Shakira's former record breaking No. 1 "Chantaje" is off another spot to No. 5. It notches a 15th straight week in the upper 5 and becomes the only track to spend all of 2017 (so far) in the region. Alesia Cara's "Scars to Your Beautiful", which joint held that title with "Chantaje", ends its streak as it slides down 5-8. Thanks to an 'interesting' and last minute Grammy performance, Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" holds at No. 6. Meanwhile, follow up track "How Would You Feel (Paean)" is new at No. 3 on the Bubbling Under chart; it looks to out-peak the already fading "Castle On the Hill" (down 57-59 this week). The 1975's "Somebody Else" holds at No. 7 once more as it inches towards 40 weeks on the chart; it should take over the title as chart sitter next week. Rounding out the top 10, Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" re-enters the region at a new peak (11-9) after slipping as result of Katy's debut. To date, it's the singer's only top 10 entry to not reach the top 5. The reason? I was a fan before it became a single and now its 'old'; it first charted over a year ago and re-entered in June and then again in the fall upon its single release. Perhaps its unexpected radio success will keep it afloat. Meanwhile, Bruno Mars' "Versace On the Floor" is off two spots from its peak of No. 8 (8-10). Hercules & Love Affair's "Controller" marks the biggest debut (of five), entering at No. 54. DJ Khaled's "Shining" (No. 60) and American alternative rock band Slaves' "I'd Rather See Your Star Explode" (No. 63) follow as the second and third biggest debuts. These three tracks mark the first notations for their lead acts (Beyoncé and Jay Z, featured on Shining, have charted before). At the end of the chart, Maty Noyes' surprisingly good disco-orchestral track "London" makes a No. 70 debut and Maroon 5 notches its first entry in over a year with their best track in years: the highly underwhelming "Cold" at No. 73. Next week looks to be interesting: Vince Staples' breakout "BagBak" and Hercules & Love Affair's "Controller" are headed for huge gains, while Thundercat's genre bending "Friend Zone" is racing towards a huge entry. Meanwhile, collaborations from Future & The Weeknd, Calvin Harris with Frank Ocean & Migos, Zedd & Alessia Cara and Future & Rihanna are all possible candidates for huge single day debuts (the 'week' ends Friday night). Little Dark Age Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) cdschart's Hot 75: March 2 OP updated with No. 1s on albums, singles and retro charts. Certification database and records updated too. Graphics are back for the top 25. The lower 50 will be added soon. Chart Notes Spoiler The Weeknd holds strong at No. 1 with "I Feel It Coming" for a fourth week. Abel's cumulative weeks at No. 1 consequently rises to 26, further extending his record for most weeks at No. 1 among males. Including all acts, he ranks only behind Rihanna in both total No.1s (9) and weeks at No. 1 (30). Will he match Rihanna's record with 'IFIC'? Maybe not... Katy Perry's "Chained to the Rhythm" continues to push up in chart points, closing the gap between it and "I Feel It Coming". Despite being an extremely close race that went down to the wire, 'Chained' ultimately settles for a second week at its peak of No. 2. Hercules & Love Affair blast to No. 3 with "Controller", up 51 spots versus last week. That ties the 51 spot jump of Little Mix's "Black Magic" for 9th biggest overall, and settles for the 5th biggest among those entering the top 10. The last song to jump more than 50 spots? Red Hot Chili Peppers moved 60 spots to No. 9 with "Dark Necessities" on May 19, 2016. Also blasting into the top 10 is Vince Staples' "BagBak" (26-4). It marks the west coast rapper's first top 10 entry and first bonafide hit on my chart; he'd previously reached the top 60 as a guest on Flume's "Smoke and Retribution" last year. With the weight of two new top 5 entries, Lady Gaga's "Million Reasons" is off two positions to No. 5 after two weeks at a peak of No. 3. Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" pushes 9-6, to another new peak in week 27. To date it's the Bajan singer's only top 10 single to not also reach the top 5, but it looks like that might be about to change. Adele's "Water Under the Bridge" ticks down another three slots to No. 7, after previously reaching as high as No. 2. Ed Sheeran's former No. 1 "Shape of You" is down 6-8, while Shakira's "Chantaje" crash 5-9 as it marks its first week out of the top 5 since November. Rounding out the top 10, Spoon's "Hot Thoughts" becomes the band's first top 10 as it rises 12-10. Next week will have the arrival of two hotly anticipated pop songs: Loreen's "Statements" and Lorde's forthcoming new single. While both were initially candidates for a No. 1 debut, Loreen's track did not quite live up to expectations. But heading into the week it wasn't impossible; she has done it before with "Euphoria". Lorde on the other hand, has the disadvantage of debuting on the last (or second to last) day of the tracking week (Friday) and has only debuted as high as No. 4 (Yellow Flicker Beat). But, yet again, it's not impossible; "Perfect Illusion" opened at No. 3 after less than 1 day and Lorde does have a track record of No. 1s. If she pulls it off, the chart will see its first No. 1 debut in nearly three years; it last happened when Kiesza's "Hideaway" knocked Lorde's "Team" off the top spot in spring 2014. Over on the album's chart, Eagles' The Very Best Of Eagles debuts at No. 1 with 101 plays; the most for a weekly No. 1 album since early December. Red Hot Chili Peppers repeat at No. 2 with I'm With You for a third week. Meanwhile, Future becomes the first artist to debut with two non-recurrent top 10 albums as Future and HNDRXX enter at No. 3 and No. 7 respectively. Blondie's Autoamerican is new at No. 4, while BRITs nominee Michael Kiwanuka's Love & Hate enters at No. 5 and Thundercat's DRUNK opens at No. 6 after a single day. Consequently last week's No. 1 album, Nao's For All We Know, is down to No. 8. Bruno Mars' former four week No. 1 24K Magic retreats to No. 9 (from No. 3) and Lady Gaga's platinum Joanne is up 13-10. Little Dark Age Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 (edited) Thanks for the comments this week. cdschart's Hot 75: March 9 OP updated with some new graphics, records, certifications, etc. Chart Notes Spoiler Lorde’s “Green Light” immediately bows at No. 1 on the singles chart on the strength of just a day and half of plays. It becomes Lorde’s third chart topper. “Green Light” marks the biggest opening for a track with two days or less of availability since “Perfect Illusion” (No. 3 in 24 hours), one of the strongest debuts in my chart’s five year history. Further, it’s the first track to debut at No. 1 since Kiesza’s “Hideaway” did so nearly three years ago (on May 8, 2014) and the 9th to do so overall. Coincidentally, “Hideaway” was the track that bumped Lorde’s first No. 1 (“Team”) from the top. “Team” had previously bumped Shakira’s “Empire”, the seventh track to debut at No. 1, from the top. To top all that off, “Empire” debuted at No. 1 this week exactly three years ago. “Team” also re-enters the chart this week at No. 31, its best rank since June 2014. Rihanna’s “Love On the Brain” powers 6-2. The doo-wop leaning pop ballad is Rihanna’s fourth top 5 single from her ‘ANTI’ record. It’s also her 20th top 5 entry overall; she’s the first artist to reach this mark. Impressively, all of Rihanna’s top 10 entries have gone on to reach the top 5. Hercules & Love Affair repeat at No. 3 with "Controller". Last week, the record tied Little Mix's "Black Magic" for the 9th biggest single week jump in the chart’s history. The Weeknd’s “I Feel It Coming” drops 1-4 after four weeks as the chart’s front-runner; it remains tied with “In the Night” as Abel’s second longest running No. 1. Katy Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm” mirrors this 3 spot drop, as it slides 2-5. Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons” is off 5-6 after two weeks at No. 3, while Ed Sheeran’s former No. 1 “Shape of You” reverses course (8-7) on the heels of his album release. Vince Staples’ breakthrough “BagBak” is the top 10’s biggest faller, down 4-8. Spoon's "Hot Thoughts" continues to push upward, moving up one spot to a new peak of No. 9. Meanwhile, follow up offering “Can I Sit Next to You” blasts 57-40 (the band’s second top 40 hit) in its second week. Thundercat’s “Friend Zone” (last week’s top debut), vaults 16-10. ‘Zone’ is the Los Angeles native’s second top 10 and first as a lead; he previously got to No. 10 as a featured guest on Kendrick Lamar’s “These Walls” back in 2016. Australian psychedelic/alternative rock group King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are this week’s spotlight artist; they enter with “Sleep Drifter” at No. 64. Khalid, Ed Sheeran and Glass Animals also debut. Albums Over on the album's chart, Eagles' The Very Best Of Eagles remains at No. 1 with 83 plays (down 18%). Temples debut at No. 2 with their second studio album Volcano. Ed Sheeran’s Divide makes a weak debut at No. 3, while Thundercat’s DRUNK is up 6-4. Taylor Swift hits her best ever rank as Speak Now randomly enters at No. 5 and Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon is back in at No. 6. Red Hot Chili Peppers’ I’m With You falls 2-7 after stalling for three weeks. Khalid’s American Teen is the chart’s third biggest entry at No. 8. Former No. 1 albums Untitled Unmastered (Kendrick Lamar) and the Suicide Squad compilation rejoin the top 10 at No. 9 and No. 10. Just outside the top 10, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard debut with Flying Microtonal Banana (No. 13). Recurrent Tracks Eagles’ finally top the chart with “Hotel California”, displacing Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair” (1-6).
